What the World Thinks about Magnetic Therapy

Fashion & Cosmetics
When you try to search about magnetic therapy, there are two types of websites that you might find. First are those that offer magnetic products that promises remedy in the use of magnets. Second are those that have articles that jabs this type of unorthodox medicine.

The wonder of magnetic therapy stirred a debate ever since products that have a magnetic healing capability were released in the market. With this, issues were stretched between alternative and conventional medicine. Conflicting sides try their best to provide logical justifications and defend their sides.

This article aims to provide the readers a clear perspective of each contrasting parties about the means of magnetic therapy. The following is the summary of the premises and arguments from both.

Magnetic therapy adherents believe that healing can be done by the use of magnets. Magnets release a magnetic force wherein the blood reacts to. This happens because blood is enriched with iron particles. Since all bodily organs use blood, magnetic products ease these organs and tissues to speed up the blood flow. It also stimulates hormones that secrete endorphins. Both reactions lessen the pain experienced. The increased rate of blood flow boosts the supply of oxygen throughout the body, and the secretion of endorphins sends signals to the brain to shade the feeling of soreness. Thus, the stronger the magnetic field that is emitted by magnetic products, the better and faster the remedial process is.

On the other hand, magnetic therapy assailants have a contention against this.

Yes, it’s true that magnet is capable of producing a magnetic field. It was even found out that all elements have some magnetic property—tagged as magnetism. However, each has its own level of magnetism. There are elements that emits weak magnetic field. Some do not have innate magnetism, but can produce its own magnetic field if placed near a stronger magnet. Only three elements (iron, nickel, and cobalt) showed the property of being permanently magnetized. This property is labeled as ferromagnetism.

While it is true that blood has iron particles, iron in the blood is not ferromagnetic. Why? First, iron particles in the blood are not hoarded together such that they are equal-sized or bigger than red blood cells. These iron particles that are proliferated in different systems of the body is not enough to trigger a reaction. Second, water is part of the blood and so water repels any magnetic field. In a nutshell, therapy that uses magnetic products does not have any direct effect on blood or in any part of the body where blood is delivered. If there magnets do have an effect to our body, then exposure to devices that releases powerful magnetic field (such as an MRI scan) is dangerous. Magnetic therapy supporters also argue that magnets do not only attract irons to better the bodily system performance. It also stabilizes the channels in which the bodies emit magnetized energy. The transfer of magnetic energy opens up a person’s chakra, or energy pathways. This concept is seen to be applied in old traditional procedures, such as yoga and acupuncture. These types of alternative medicines are established that it has been accepted in the culture and is used for business. For example, spa treatments use magnetic products to offer relaxation and bodily treatment. If a spa is not accessible, businesses present a wide variety of products for magnetic therapy.

Magnet Giant is one of the online businesses that offer a range of magnetic products, from magnetic mattresses to magnetic acupuncture insoles.

On the other hand, magnetic therapy attackers believe that the success of magnetic therapy lies only in the mind of the ill person. The procedure of shifting energy and the use of magnets do not influence anything on the body. But the idea of its experience helps the brain to believe that they are being restored to health. This results the body to respond in a self-curative state. This phenomenon is called the placebo effect.

The debate is endless. With researches around proving and disproving magnetic therapy, it just demonstrates how we can find and convince ourselves of reasons to live a healthy life.
