Faster Method to Salvage Wet Carpet

Home Improvement,Health,Family & Parenting
Dealing with wet carpet, especially padding, is a situation that needs immediate response for health reasons. Water intrusion affecting carpet and other floor coverings is among the most difficult situations inside the home.

The most important action taken in a flooding is to locate the source and act quickly to remove the water. Depending on the humidity, temperature, and dew point levels will determine how quickly mold will develop in wet carpet.

When your carpet is flooded, try to remove as much of the water as possible. The carpet must be treated with a disinfectant following extraction of excess water. Most homeowners insist that the carpet should be replaced in all flooding situations but this is usually not necessary in the case of sanitary flooding.

If to get the smell out of your carpet due to water absorbed in it, try use baking soda on the carpet and leave it on there for one or a couple of days. Then vacuum it up. The smell should be gone. Works great and the smell is not masked by perfume. No matter what the cause, if smell is going to be the problem, Diatomaceous Earth (also known as Cat-Sand) is the only answer. This product is available on the cheap from almost any bulk supplier.

There is no standard procedure for dealing with every flooding situation. Each crisis must be evaluated on a case by case basis. Every flooding situation will have its own distinguishing problems. There are a number of standard questions that must be addressed in evaluating the proper protocol for returning the carpet to its pre-flood status. One should never try using just any vacuum on wet carpet as this can pose hazards.

Wet carpet cleaning is an intricate task that can impact anyone. While following these five tips are crucial in best increasing the chances that the carpet can be saved, the most important step is ensuring that a qualified professional is scheduled to assess the damage as soon as possible. They can guide the home or business owner through the process of ensuring permanent damage is not sustained.

The solution to wet carpets may seem simple – dry them. In the case of wet area rugs and small carpets, the drying process is easy since all you really need to do is take the rug or carpet and bring it to a dry area where it can be aired out. When it comes to drying wall to wall carpeting, however, the task becomes more difficult because of the size of the carpet and the fact that carpets are highly absorbent so it gets very heavy when drenched with water.

It is very important to note that wet carpet pads need to be discarded and replaced. Carpet pads absorb and trap water so effectively that not all of the water can be extracted even when a commercial grade water extraction machine is used. Since it cannot be dried completely, the padding has to be replaced or it would be very unsanitary otherwise, becoming a breeding ground for molds and causing wooden floors to rot.
