Man’s redemption was not complete at the cross of the final sacrifice. There was also the need of a High Priest, who could enter into the Holy of Holies in Heaven, the true Sanctuary of God, and offer up His own blood at the alter, which would take away the remembrance of sin forever. (The first covenant, the law, brought sin to remembrance once a year.) Not only did the blood of Jesus take sin away from the remembrance of God forever, it also purged man’s heart from a sin consciousness forever, and opened up the way where every man’s hope in Christ can enter into the Holy of Holies in Heaven, where Jesus first went. This is why we are told in Hebrews 4:14-16 to come boldly unto the throne of grace. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. God sent His Son, and called him a high priest, not after the order of Aaron from among the tribe of Levi, who are men that do not abide continually, but after the order of Melchisedec, who lives forever, and also is a king, as Melchisedec was. According to the scriptures, Melchisedec was a very great man, even greater than our Father Abraham, stating, and without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
