There is no kidding; copywriting can make you earn huge money. For some people in advertising who are worth their salt, shifting to writing jobs have earned them hundreds of thousands in yearly take-home pay. You’d be stunned to know that some of these lucky guys were earning a little less than 10 dollars per hour from their jobs before they became copywriters.

Big Ideas

That’s pretty encouraging and you might be mulling on the idea that you’d be someday like them. Just one point worth taking note of: It takes BIG ideas for one to be able to attract consumers and get them to buying the products that are being advertised. Everybody in the writing service industry knows that a copywriter to be able to have a good name should hit the right note every time he or she is working on a writing piece. Big ideas, big ideas, big ideas – that’s what writing experts keep on saying.

The Road to Making Big Ideas

But BIG ideas don’t come in a snap of one’s hands. Think of the many advertising ideas that have caught your attention. They are products of vigorous brainstorming among people who’ve been there in the business for some number of years. And they do brainstorm every time there’s a project. You see, even those who have good experience in the field have to spend days and nights just to come up with a BIG idea.

There are a couple of things that need to be done to prepare for the monstrous job of copywriting, some of these require that you actually experience making write-ups for real clients. You will have to deal with different stuff such as composing jingles, or describing products on brochures, creating catchy ideas or taglines for commercials, ads and billboards or ghostwriting for clients (magazine and web articles).

• Get a good knowledge base on writing. If you are one who is about to enter college, consider taking English-language-based courses such as advertising or journalism. If you are already working, it may not be necessary for you to complete one of these courses in order to qualify. Some copywriters are freelance writers who took some specialized English college subjects aimed at improving their writing skills.

Do not forget to include some IT courses to give you a wide range of knowledge on how to operate on the Internet.

• Study as many advertising books as possible. Get a feel of how things are done when writing. With these, you’ll find a lot of examples to guide you on how to scrutinize advertising works or pieces, even those that you would try to make. And from the ideas that you will read there, try to come up with your own copywriting ideas. It’s just that you’ve got to be original to stand out in this business. So, buy, own and read this kind of books.

• Get yourself right at the doorsteps of ad agencies with an intention to go through an internship. They are not going to pay you there with the works that you will be doing, but do not think of money right away. You must be patient until a position becomes available. While waiting, make sure that you relate well with people that matter.
