Located at an average elevation of 1215 metres Khonsa is a prominent tourists place of Arunachal Pradesh. It comes under the Tirap district which is located in the southeastern part of the state. It is a small town but Khonsa bears a cosmopolitan look along with the presence of different people come from all parts of the country. This town is scenically encompassed by the lush green wood lands that are defined as the home of rare flora and fauna. Red pandas, mithuns, musk deer, numerous species of Rodents are seen here along with diverse avian species. Myanmar comes in the east and Assam lies in the south to Khonsa. There are not much information about the history of Khonsa. The place is also known as 'forgotten land' for its isolation nature. It was annexed to British during the colonial time. The place offers a relaxing holidaying and it is a good place to spend quality time from the hurly burly city life. It is marked as a military area with the presence of Assam Rifeles and CRPF battalions. This tiny hill station is elegantly decorated with several panoramic views along with its green ravines, deep chasms. Placed at Namsang-Dirak River Valley and a part of the Tissa River Valley, Khonsa is an idyllic place to explore. The area comes under the Tissa River Valley experiences tropical forests. Its thick green forests and edged hilly regions make this place a nature destination. It is a place where tourist can enjoy the woody atmosphere with the presence of wild life and deep forests along with some exhilarating options like trekking, camping and others. Trekking through this dense forests is the most attractive and interesting part of the trip of Khonsa. It is a well admirable place for adventure and nature buffs. There are a few places of interest. Khonsa Museum and emporium are quite prominent. The museum boasts of many traditional artifacts which reflect the traditional culture of the local tribals. To get a glimpse of the lifestyle of the local inhabitants this museum is an ideal place to visit. It distinctly symbolizes an insight of the culture of Khonsa and the entire region as well. Kheti and Lajo Village is another well noted place which holds the old age traditions and culture along with their unique decorations with human skulls collected by the forefathers during the headhunting days. Those villages are mostly populated by Nocte and Wanchoo tribes who enjoy their leisure lifestyle with the serene silent ambiance. Namdapha National Park comes in the excursion trip of Khonsa. It is 166 km far from this hill station. Stretches over an area of 1985 sq kms, it is the largest national park in the north-east part of India. The total area holds Assam valley Tropical Rain forest and North Indian Tropical Moist Deciduous forest as well. It houses Black bear, Red Panda, Slow loris and others and it is declared as tiger reserve. Miao is an another tourist attraction and known as Homeland of Tibetan refugees. It is the gateway to Namdapha National Park and it is a heaven of adventure lovers along the exciting activities of angling, hiking, and trekking.
