Preparing a research paper is not at all an easy task and often becomes a nightmare for some people. This article explains some goals that must be achieved to prepare a perfect research paper. In case you are writing a research paper for the first time, it is very important to first completely understand what a research paper actually is. Very often, people confuse a research paper with other documents and end up using the wrong approach. Unlike other coursework, a research paper will not ask you for a general discussion on a given topic. Also, you cannot get high marks by using several quotes which is the case in essays and assignments. There are certain rules that should be followed when writing a research paper and trying to prove something ‘you believe’ is strictly prohibited. Following are some goals that every writer should aim to achieve and his/her research paper will definitely be an excellent one: 1) Clear, specific focus: Firstly, it is recommended to choose a very specific and narrow topic for the research paper because it is usually easier and better to write on just one thing rather than many. Professors claim that papers showing detailed research on one specific topic are far better than papers that consist of brief information about many things. However, there is no hard and fast rule to do so. 2) Following instructions: In case you have to write a research paper as an assignment, it is very necessary to strictly follow the instructions and guidelines provided by your professor or teacher. A professor usually provides students with guides on where to look information from, research methods and many other similar things. Therefore, they must be followed at all times or else your research paper may get rejected. 3) Quantity and quality of sources: When youss include evidences and sources in a research paper, it becomes more professional and perfect. However, a flawless research paper will not only include a list of sources but will categorize reliable and biased sources, genuine and questionable statistics separately. When this is done, a research paper gets a professional look and this is appreciated by the readers. Just listing sources makes research paper quite boring and unprofessional. 4) A clear and logical thesis: Unlike generalized essays and reports, you are not allowed to discuss or argue on the topic. This is because argument and discussion requires the writer to talk about two or more views while a research paper should be based on one view. When you choose a narrow topic, you must first figure out whether you support the topic or not and then firmly stick to your stance till the end. Moving away from the stance even slightly can result in the rejection of a research paper. These are the major goals that every writer must keep in mind in order to prepare a perfect professional research paper. It must be noted that research paper is based on your own research and findings so quoting what your friends think is a very bad idea. Also, avoid repetition at all times because even if you repeat a point unintentionally, readers may think that your research was insufficient.
