There will be an orthopedic doctor on hand during games to offer their expertise and assistance in a player is injured. This rehabilitation and training clinic will treat neurological and orthopedic conditions where many different kinds of treatments are used. Some of these treatments may range from exercise equipment, heat, cold, massage therapy and much more. The orthopedic doctor may want their patient to attend a clinic of this sort to regain use of an extremity after a surgical procedure or after an injury. This clinic is largely a physical therapy clinic. A doctor generally manages and oversees the clinic and patient's progress with physical therapy and the physical therapy assistants do the bulk of the retraining of patient's limbs, back or body. This type of clinic is not just for the sports player. -A Bit of History The area of expertise of an orthopedic doctor has been around for years. Bone specialists began this area of care in the 1700 hundreds, and these doctors started out by treating children. Children who displayed certain deformities at birth such as spine and leg or arm deformities would be treated by the orthopedic. By the 1800 this areas of expertise gained momentum and along with this increased knowledge came and advanced knowledge of how the muscles, ligaments and tendons affected progressive bone diseases or deformities. In the late 1800 hundreds the sports clinics began to open and offer services to all ages of patients.
