There is more than one way to go to the other side of a lake. A lake can be walked around, or it can be passed over. Luke 8:22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he (Jesus) went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. Jesus told His disciples, Let us pass over to the other side of the lake. They all got in the ship and the journey began. Jesus entered into his rest as the scriptures state. There is no fear in rest, even though a storm is developing, or even if it comes up suddenly, and things look hopeless. The disciples, which means disciplined ones, who were fishermen, were not strangers to the sea. They could read the signs of the weather. Regardless of what the weather looked like, Jesus said, “Let us go over unto the other side of the lake.” Notice He said, Let us go over the lake, not go down in it. With faith in these words, there should have been no fear in any soul in the ship, only rest. Why? Jesus came to earth to complete his mission, and the other side of the lake was not the end of His mission. The end of His earthly mission was the cross. It was impossible for Him to perish before His time. The disciples had a calling to carry on the work of Christ after His earthly mission was complete. Surely none would perish, yet the disciples came to Jesus and disturbed Him in his rest and said, “Master don’t you care that we perish.” Where was their faith? Did they not know their calling? Did they not know the calling of Jesus? Did they not know the promises of God concerning them? Even if Jesus had not risen out of rest and calmed the wind and sea as the scriptures state, the end results would have been the same. His time was not yet, and neither were the disciples, and He knew it. God would have keep them safe another way. Just before Jesus went to the cross He prayed to the Father, I have kept all them you gave me and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, referring to Judas. (John 17) The disciples were in no danger of loss of life. Think about how it would have been if they had known this. Surely they would not have disturbed Jesus in His rest. They should have entered into His rest with Him. So what does this mean for those with Christ today? People must first determine which route they will take to get to the other side of their obstacles. If they choose to go around, they must be prepared to deal with all obstacles in the way. If they choose to enter into the Father's rest, they must get in the boat, even though it may not seem to be clear sailing. Me, I choose to get in the boat and rest with Him. Let the one who owns the ship be responsible for getting me to the other side. My fare has been paid. Why should I fret? My life is in Christ, hidden in the Father’s bosom. I have a promise, I am going to the other side. This article is taken from an excerpt from my book, Life From On High. Get your Free download at fredfishburne.com.
