Agra, the land of Taj Mahal, famed with one of the Seven Wonders of the World allure a good number of national and as well international

tourists in every year. Its rich heritage makes India a great recognized place among the world. This medieval city located on the Banks of Holi

River Yamuna. The city was mentioned in the epic Mahabharata where it was called Agrevana, or “the border of the forest”. The credit for the

founding of the city goes to Raja Badal Singh around 1475, whose fort, Badalgarh, stood on or near the site of the present Fort. Agra has

achieved a captivating fame being the capital of the Mughal emperors from 1526 to 1658 and still it is a major tourist destination because of its

many splendid Mughal-era buildings, most notably the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri-all three are UNESCO certified World Heritage

Sites. Once Agra was the capital of many dynasties including Lodhi and Mughals. Agra stands for its historical architectural excellence. This place holds the anecdotes of its grandeur monuments and temples. It makes its life

style different from the other city. This place still holds its antique flavor in this modern time and this is the mystic secret behind its attraction.

Any people can enjoy the serenity in its historical structures and simultaneously can enjoy the liveliness of this city with the presence of

hawkers, unofficial guides, souvenir vendors and others. Agra is well known for several art performances. The reminiscences of the past glory and the talents like traditional paintings, folk dances, folk

music, embroideries, beautiful cloth designing and stitching are still preserved in this historical town. Once it was the core place of

Sculptors, jewelers, musicians, painters, carpet makers, artisans and metal workers. This place symbolizes its artistic tradition and makes a

hub for the tourists who love to collect the antique pieces. This place is considered as the mirrors of the cultural and artistic talents of the

Indian populace since its long past.

one of the most visited place in India. According to mythology this place is mentioned in Mahabharata, the epic of Hindu and before that it was

the specialty of this place. The silver and gold jewelery hub is at Choube Ji Ka Fatak in Agra. Munro Road, Kinari Bazar and Sadar Bazar are

the main shopping areas in Agra.

How to reach- Agra, a medieval city of Uttar Pradesh is well visited tourist spot of India. Mathura placed nearer to Agra is another famous tourist place of

India. However, Agra is well connected with the surrounding states and as well the other places. Agra By Train Agra has four railway stations- Agra Cantt, Raja-ki-Mandi, Agra Fort, and Idgah Agra Junction. The city is well linked by the train services with

almost all cities in India and as well the major cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. Agra By Air The Kheria Airport is located at a distance of 8 km from the center of the city. The city is connected to Varanasi, Delhi (200 km) and

Khajuraho by air. It takes about Rs.150/- from the airport to the city by taxi.

Agra By Bus Agra is well connected to Delhi, Kanpur and Lucknow by road. Chartered tourist deluxe bus services are there from Delhi to Agra. Lucknow

(over 300 km) and Kanpur (over 70 km) are also connected by Road transport corporation buses.

Places to Visit: The city Agra is considered as a well visited historical tourist spot for its architectural excellence. The city bears a great charm along with the

Museums, Palaces, Monuments and heritage place like Fatehpur Sikri. This places is beautifully highlighted with the three UNESCO certified

World Heritage Sites like the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and Agra Fort. In the Agra Fort the main monuments located within the fort include the

Anguri Bagh Gardens, Diwan-i-Khas, Jahangir's Palace, Ladies' Bazaar, Moti Masjid, Nagina Masjid and Shish Mahal. Apart from these the

other places like Itmad - Ud Daula (Baby Taj),Chini Ka Roza, Sikandara, Akbar’s Mausoleum, Jama Masjid, Mehtab Bagh, Taj Nature Park,

Guru Ka Taal are located along with the artistic beauty and individuality. The first Mughal style garden was created in Agra. Ram Bagh, Soami

Bagh, Shah Jahan Park and Dayal Bagh stand as most visited gardens.

Best Time to Visit The city has a semiarid climate that borders on a humid subtropical climate. The city contains mild winters, hot and dry summers and

monsoon. The summer season ranges from April to September where the temperature goes up to 45° Celsius. So the best time to visit Agra

is from October to March. There is another attraction in February. The Department of Tourism organizes the Taj Mahotsav from February 18th

to 27th at Shilpgram in Agra every year. The festival celebrates Mughal art and culture. This festival is grandly celebrated accompanied with

the musical and dance performances, food festival and crafts mela. This festival attracts a good number of national and international tourist as

well.

Dos & Dont's Some following tips for Agra according to the norms and values of the place :- -Respect the local culture and tradition of the place. -Seek permission and submit entry fee before entering any monument or any historical place. -Buy tickets and hand the fee only to the authorized person at the counter. -Before paying visit to any place check out the address along with landmark properly. -While traveling in train take proper care of your luggage

-Don't scribble on the walls or spoil the monuments or any historical place. -Do not throw litter in the parks, gardens and roads. -Try to stay away from agents and touts. -Do not encourage beggary.

Where to eat in Agra Agra is famous for Mughlai Khana. The kababs, pulaos and kheer and petha are wold famous. To taste the original flavor of agra you should go

to the authentic Restaurants. Some of the better restaurants in Agra are:- Peshawari on M G Road, which is famous for the best Mughlai food in town at reasonable prices. The only restaurant on Taj Road is a mulch-cuisine place which serves Mughlai, Indian, Continental and Chinese food. Petals on Gopi Chand Shivare Road in Sadar Bazaar serves some delectable chicken items.
