A body shape or type is divided into three categories – ectomorphic, endomorphic and mesomorphic. In understanding your body type, you would know what strategy to use to control your weight and to exercise. You cannot alter your bone structure or genetics. You therefore have to simply work with what you have. Have someone measure your body so as to know your shape. Men must measure across the center of their chest while women must measure across their breasts. You must breathe out prior to measuring. When measuring your waist, measure an inch over the belly button and as for the hips, measure at the spot that is widest. Another way to understand the body type you have is to stand straight in front of a tall mirror. If you are a woman, check if you have an hourglass shape and if you are a man, see if you have a rectangular shape. If this is the case, you have a shape belonging to the mesomorphic category. This means that you have a big bone structure, a strong torso and a low fat storage. It is usual for you to have a small waist and broad shoulders. You would lose or gain weight without difficulty as you have an athletic body. Your hip and chest measurements are close to each other. Your waist should not be less than six inches from your chest measurement and another six inches from your hips measurements. Another body shape is the banana which is in the ectomorphic category. If you have this shape, you have long legs and arms, slender shoulders, short top torso, long and thin muscles and a low fat storage. You would have difficulty when you try to gain weight with this body shape. When understanding your body type, measure yourself if you are either spoon-shaped or pear-shaped. This means you are heavier at the bottom than the other parts of the body. This is not an indication though that you are fat. You have a big difference in your hips and chest measurement but never at your chest and waist measurement. If you are apple-shaped, the measurement of your waist is a lot bigger than your chest and hips. You belong to the endomorphic category if your body is shaped like an apple. The top of your torso is weightier. You have shorter legs, a big bone structure, broad waist, few muscles and bigger fat storage. When you have this body type, your main problem is weight gain. Determine if you have a shape of a cone or a ruler. If you are a cone, you have waist and chest measurements which are very close but your hip measurement is 6 inches or smaller than your chest measurement. If you are a ruler, you have a small difference in your chest, hips and waist measurements. When you know your shape, you would be able to determine which part of your body needs working out. In understanding your body type, you would be able to start your journey to a great body. If you are looking for information on understanding your body type, click on the link.
