With the release date of the 2012 Macbook Pro just days away,rumors and speculation about Apple"s redesigned Macbook Prohave included everything from an upgraded retina display to aslimmed-down Macbook Air-like redesign, absent an optical drive.But some of the early Mac rumors and specs about the 2012 MacbookPro update may have missed the mark. A snapshot of a specs label from a new 2012 Macbook Pro obtained bySlashgear showed that the upgraded Apple laptop has retained itsoptical drive. It also appears that unlike the 15-inch model, thenew 13-inch Macbook Pro release may not include a retina display. "The 15-inch MacBook Pro has been the main model tipped to include a Retina display, withnot much being said of the 13.3- or 17-inch models. A leaked specsheet indicates that that 13-inch may not see a Retina displayupdate, instead settling for a mobile Ivy Bridge update as well astwo USB 3.0 ports. The integrated graphics also see a bump toIntel"s HD 4000 GPU," according to the specs. The standard 1280 x 800 resolution display could leave the MacbookPro at a real disadvantage in the hotly-contested 13 inch laptopmarket. Ivy Bridge Ultrabooks, like the Asus Zenbook , are expected to reach retailers at about the same time as the newMacbook Pro release. In addition to being sleeker and more powerful than previouslyreleased models, the 2012 Asus Zenbook Prime is boasting a full HD1920 x 1080 IPS, matt screen display. Although PC Ultrabooks are designed to compete more directly withthe Macbook Air, the 13 inch Macbook Pro would certainly beincluded on the short list of laptop shoppers. The 2012 Macbook Pro will still see an upgraded display. Intel 4000graphics is part of the new Ivy Bridge technology, as well asnative USB 3.0 support, and faster 1600MHz DDR 3 SDRAM. For Apple fans who were dreading the possible end of the opticaldrive bay in the best selling Macbook Pro model, the thought thatit may remain should come as pleasant, if unexpected, surprise.
