There are a lot of things I am willing to try and drink when I go out to a bar or club. As much as I usually stick to just having a beer, I can be easily persuaded to at least give something else a try, particularly if someone else is buying it. Recently I have seen a trend starting when I have been out for some Houston nightclub fun. People seem to be drinking more of these glowing cocktails more than ever before. I am not really sure what the big attraction is to these drinks. I guess people figure that they just look cool and they want to have one. I have tried a couple, and to be honest I haven’t really liked the taste of most of them. Drinking them just makes me think I am drinking something toxic. I mean, you aren’t really supposed to ingest things that can glow like that are you? It can’t really be the best thing to be putting into your body. Whatever the case may be, I did little investigating about these glowing cocktails. Turns out the alcohol itself isn’t what makes them glow, at least not really. There are two ways that the bartender can make it seem like the drink is actually glowing. The most common way to do this is to use some kind of black light underneath or around the drink. There are certain types of alcohol, food and other drinks that do give off fluorescence when they are under a black light. This allows the bartender to give the illusion that the drink is glowing. The less common way to do it is to use to use ice that actually glows. There are ice cubes that can be frozen and have a small glow inside them that can give the drink the look that they are glowing. This is kind of an expensive to achieve the look at you lose the ice cubes at a public place like a bar or club, so you don’t usually see this. There are certain liquids that glow the best, like tonic water and energy drinks. When they are lit with a black light they do give off a glow and it looks pretty cool. The one drink that I see that is popular is known as the Aurora, which is gin, tonic water and pink lemonade mixed together. When under a black light, it glows and is supposed to look like the Aurora Borealis. While these drinks are cool to look at, I still feel funny about trying to drink one of them. It just doesn’t seem natural to me, even if it does add to some Houston nightclub fun. I guess I just an old stick-in-the-mud when it comes to beverages. I’ll stay with my plain old looking beer, thank you. Do you know where you can get a glowing cocktail when out for some Houston nightclub fun?
