Are Cork Floors Good If You Have Pets?

Home Improvement
This is a question many homeowners who have pets wonder about - are cork floors good if they have pets? Most American families have at least one pet if not more. While pets can bring endless joy to the home, they can also cause a lot of damage all around especially if they are not properly trained on time. Puppies love to chew and scratch to get rid of the irritation and restlessness that they feel. All of this can do untold damage to your flooring especially if you have some select type of flooring that is not pet friendly.

Laying carpeting over your flooring is not a solution, as it they are difficult to clean and tends to hold the odors for a long time. Moreover, pet hair and dander tends to hide in the thick pile of the carpeting causing havoc on any family member who may be suffering from allergies. In fact if you have a pet in the house and you have carpeting, you will have to be extra careful about vacuuming and cleaning up every single day to avoid allergy flare ups.

Cork floors are the best option for any home that has small or medium sized pets. Cork is a hardy material that can withstand a lot of rough use. You do not have to worry about your cat or small dog damaging it by scratching it with their claws. Even if they scratch the flooring, it is not likely to tear. Instead, cork floors will just get compressed and then regain their shape as soon as they are released. Neither do you have to worry about your dog bounding across the floor to greet you as you return home from work as the cork floor can hold their own without getting damaged.

Another advantage with cork floors is that they are anti-allergenic. They do not have any thick pile that will hold and lock in pet dander or pet fur. Sure, your pets will still shed fur all over the place but with a cork floor this can be easily vacuumed or swept away without causing any allergy related problems.

Another quality of cork floors that make them excellent for a household that has pets is that it is water resistant. Should your pet, due to age or excitability, have an accident on your cork floor, the three coats of water based polyurethane protects the floors from permanent damage. For extra protection, you will want to apply two more coats of the same high-end, German engineered, water based polyurethane to your floor once it has been installed. There won’t be any lingering foul smell as there would be if you had carpeting laid out on the floor.

Last but not least, cork flooring is one of the most economical choices in flooring today. It does not make sense to use expensive flooring that can get damaged by pets when you have the option of cork floors, which are cheaper but also more animal friendly.

It is best to note that large animals, such as dogs over 40lbs, have the ability to damage any wood surface or finished floor. Cork flooring, though tougher to damage, is still susceptible to surface scratches left behind by large dogs or high-energy medium sized dogs.

If you are looking for a beautiful and affordable flooring option, you should look into cork flooring . www.icorkfloor.com has a wide array of cork tiles to suit any home décor. Check them out today.
