I am not as young as I used to be. Staying out until all hours of the night just doesn’t have the same appeal as it had for me when I was younger. Most of the Houston nightlife events I attend nowadays are usually over by about one or two in the morning. There has been the rare occasion when my friends and I have decided to stay out a little later, but things tend to get a little weird in the city where entertainment is concerned when you are part of the afterhours crowd. Normally, it gets to be two in the morning and I am out of here. I need to go to bed. It was only a few weeks ago though that one of my buddies was seeing a new girl and she wanted us to stay up and stay out. He was trying to impress her and show her how hip and cool he was and he needed us to tag along. We left the one club we were at and started searching for something to do. His date mentioned that she knew of a late night place that would be perfect for us to go to tonight. My only hope was that they had comfortable booths so that if a laid down I could fall asleep easily. Other than that, I didn’t really care where we were going. We walked into this club that didn’t really look much like a club. It looked more like someone’s living room that they were letting people come into. I guess that is the way it is for a lot of this places that are open only late at night. I took a seat on the couch nearby while my friends all went up to the bar to get a drink. I closed my eyes for a second and then I felt a tapping on my shoulder to wake me up. I turned to me left and found a ventriloquist dummy trying to wake me up. I was also blinded by a big spotlight. Turns out where I sat down was part of the performance for the evening and there I was being watched by everyone in the bar, talking to this dummy. I tried to get up but was pushed back down by the dummy (okay, I know I was pushed by the guy controlling the dummy, but I was getting pretty mad at this dummy at this point, so I blame it on him). The dummy kept cracking wise jokes about me as I kept trying to leave. I finally had enough of his insults, ripped his arms off and beat him with them until my friends pulled me off and we left. Turns out the ventriloquist was the girl’s brother and it was his show. Needless to say we have never been back there and my friend never heard from the girl again. I told him we are better off; let’s stick to Houston nightlife events that end by two and the only dummy involved is me. Do you know of any Houston nightlife events that happen after 2 AM?
