Incense is term that we use to refer to an item or a substance we burn, in order to obtain a pleasant scent around us. The frankincense is a resin that is used by the Christian church in all its rituals, because of its connection to the divine. Many other faiths would burn frankincense to purify or “clean” the area and those present. The term can be understood as “true aroma burner”, and it is a French term. The pure frankincense incense is actually the resin, as it is harvested from one of the 4 trees that release it. One should know that the resin in its pure form is strongly fragrant and it melts away at high temperatures. Thus, when you burn it, it is best to also burn some charcoal pieces to make it last or longer. When you burn the pure form of the frankincense, you will obtain more smoke as well, than from other forms. Many people prefer to burn the resin as is no matter where they are: indoors or outdoors. The quality of the frankincense incense in its pure form, is given by its color: it has to be as light colored as possible, and will as little streaks of color as possible. The lightest color possible is pale yellow – as pale as it can get. The frankincense resin can be turned into frankincense oil and this is widely used in perfumes as well as in aromatherapy. The frankincense oil when used for aromatherapy, is believed to give a stronger response than the other forms in which one can find this resin. It is used for when relaxation, calming down, to clear your nose, for meditation as well as when one gives birth and needs to take in deep breaths. The frankincense incense sticks can be found to buy in a number of places – even your local supermarket may sell a brand or two. The use of the frankincense as incense sticks is recommended for those who have a sensitive nose when it comes to strong fragrances. The incense sticks are not as fragrant as the resin in its pure form. If you like the scent of the frankincense and you want to sniff it in your office as well, you should use the incense sticks or oil forms, rather than the really smoky pure form which may even trigger the fire alarm.
