Auckland Home Ant Control Tips in Dealing with Indoor Flying Ants

Environment,Home Improvement,Family & Parenting
It is for this reason that ants seen indoors during the summer may simply indicate that it has flown in from the outdoors, but is likely to die prior to finding an appropriate nesting site. However, because the ants are not active outdoors in the winter, a flying ant seen indoors at this time means that the ants are, indeed, nesting within the structure.

Getting rid of flying ants in the house can be a mountainous task. It is the weather that causes flying ants to invade your home. Finding a winged ant or two indoors during the summer does not necessarily mean there is a problem, but if winged ants are seen in the home during the winter months, there is a strong likelihood that there is a carpenter ant nest within the structure.

If you begin to see swarms of these ants, indoors or outdoors, be sure to take action quickly. If left untreated, these winged ants could settle down, causing the previously existing ant colonies to keep growing.

Whether the sighted winged ant is a winged carpenter ant or a termite, however, the wings depict the insect to be of a reproductive male or queen—the only members of an ant colony that can reproduce. Ants and termites swarm to mate, after which the males die, having fulfilled their life's purpose, and the queens drop their wings to seek a nesting site.

These flying ants swarm only on particular days, because they mate to form new colonies. Although the mating does not last for too long, it is important to exterminate flying ants to avoid infestation. Here are the measures you can undertake for getting rid of flying ants in your house.

Soapy Water Spray: Make soapy water and spray it on the ants. This will help you to get rid of flying ants. You can also get rid of flying ants by using an insect killer spray. Mixture of Honey and Borax: To avoid flying black ants revisiting your home, it is important to get rid of their colonies itself. Make a mixture of honey, borax and any artificial sweetener. Sprinkle it on the mounds all around your home. Sprinkling this mixture on the mounds makes sure that the ants carry the 'poison' to their home and kill all the residents of their colony. Sugar, Water and Boric Acid Mixture: The other solution which you can make is of water, sugar and boric acid. Make a solution by mixing all these three ingredients. Dip a cotton ball in the solution and leave it along the ant trail. Diatomaceous Earth Powder: Diatomaceous earth is a powder which is made from the skeletons of a class of algae. Sprinkling this powder on the ants will dry them and eventually kill them. This powder is safe if you have pets, so you will not have to worry about your pet ingesting it. Turmeric Powder: Turmeric is a natural antiseptic agent. Turmeric powder can be sprinkled in the area where you find any flying ant infestation.

Vacuum

If ants have already found their way into your home, try sprinkling a little baby powder into the carpet and vacuum away. Be sure to seal and dispose of the bag immediately afterward.

This works in two ways. First, it gets rid of ants that are inside the carpet. They will suffocate and die while inside the bag. Second, the baby powder works to eliminate the scent of any ant trails, causing ants indoors to get lost and deterring ants outdoors to enter your home.
