As they say “you are, what you eat”. Food is an essential part of our life and it directly affects our physical and mental behavior. A non-vegetarian and vegetarian may have different sort of likes and dislikes also they may differ from each other in the way they deal with identical situation and the same has been proved by conducting several studies. People who eat fresh and more fibrous diet are less prone to cancer and also may attain longevity if they continue in the same fashion. Green vegetables and colourful fruits are considered as a major source of anti-oxidants which reduce the aging process of human body and good intake of the same results in healthy and glowing skin. Nutrients can be obtained from many different foods, so there are numerous diets that may be considered healthy. A healthy diet needs to have a balance of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates calories to support energy need and micro nutrients to meet the needs for human nutrition without inducing toxicity or excessive weight gain from consuming excessive amounts. An unhealthy diet is a major risk factor for a number of chronic diseases including: high blood pressure, diabetes, abnormal blood lipids, overweight/obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. The WHO estimates that 2.7 million deaths are attributable to a diet low in fruit and vegetable every year. Globally it is estimated to cause about 19% of gastrointestinal cancer, 31% of ischemic heart disease, and 11% of strokes, thus making it one of the leading preventable causes of death worldwide. In nutrition, diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. Dietary habits are the habitual decisions an individual or culture makes when choosing what foods to eat. The word diet often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reasons (with the two often being related). Although humans are omnivores, each culture and each person holds some food preferences or some food taboos. This may be due to personal tastes or ethical reasons. Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy. Proper nutrition requires ingestion and absorption of fibber, vitamins, minerals, and food energy in the form of carbohydrates, proteins, vegetable oils, and fats. Dietary habits and choices play a significant role in the quality of life, health and longevity. It can define cultures and play a role in religion. A healthy diet may improve or maintain optimal health. In developed countries, affluence enables unconstrained caloric intake and possibly inappropriate food choices. It is recommended by many authorities that people maintain a normal weight by (limiting consumption of energy-dense foods and sugary drinks), eat plant-based food, limit red and processed meat, and limit alcohol. However, there is no total consensus on what constitutes a healthy eating habit or diet. Eating healthy can sometimes be tough. After all, teens are busier and busier with school, part-time jobs and other activities. What a teen eats is not always high on the priority list. For many teens, nutrition consists of whatever can be eaten in the car, shuttling between activities. While the ill effects may not show now, eventually poor nutrition habits will catch up with teens. In fact, many teens show the effects of less than desirable nutrition practices now, even though they may not know it. The effects of regular consumption of junk food, such as fast food, soda, potato chips and other popular snacks, include the following: >Increased risk of heart disease. > Risk of becoming obese, now or later in life. > Some cancers are related to excess fat and sugar intake. > Greater chance of diabetes later in life. > Increased tendency toward hypertension. Nutrition, to some extent, is based on individual needs. Depending on the level of activity of a teenager, different amounts of calories should be consumed. If you want to stay healthy and would like to lead a healthy routine, you should have control on your eating habits and should try to mend your own ways to a healthy lifestyle in accordance to the nature of your body. Eating healthy is the only solution to all health related issues and once we are aware of it, we too can achieve a celebrity type body and beautiful body and mind.
