Colleges - A Vocational Institution Versus a Formal Institution

Education
Colleges are educational institutions that offer individuals a chance to learn and be educated in the courses that they want. Despite having the same goal and aim, which is to educate their students, not all of these institutions are labeled the same. The label can mean anything from a formal education institution that awards degrees, which can be bases for work, to community schools that offer short-term programs for those who wish to learn about them.

Formal Schools Colleges that award degrees are the most common kinds of academies. They are not necessarily universities, but they do offer educational courses, which are pertinent to work, professions and practices for individuals. There is a curriculum that teachers and professors follow when teaching their students and there is a program that the undergraduates need to follow in order to achieve graduation. Most of the reputable schools in the country have a waiting list for students who wish to enter popular courses and programs. All of the schools have buildings and facilities that are pertinent to the learning process of the students who attend the academies. Collegiate universities are made up of colleges working together in a loose federation. They operate in pretty much the same way as formal schools, in which they offer degrees when the individual graduates that are pertinent to the profession, practice or work that will be the end result of the learning process. In some schools, these are called departments in order to differentiate them from each other. Each department has a specific dean in charge of it and has a specific set of courses that it teaches to its students.

Vocational Schools Vocational school can also be called the same term because they offer a higher form of education after high school. The difference with these kinds of institutions if that they focus more on certain subjects and thus have a shorter turnaround. The courses that they offer are also more of the vocational type, which means that the individuals who attend these are hoping to learn manual and practical work and education from them. The courses offered in these schools are usually short term and may have even been sponsored by specific companies in order to educate their employees or to train potential employees. Some of these can also be called community colleges if they are focused on practical and manual courses. Some of the community schools offer courses that are not necessarily pertinent to work, but instead are good for developing the personal interests of the person. Some of the programs and subjects in them are more pertinent to life and enrichment for the soul than to the education.

These are just some of the differences between the colleges that can be found in the United States. These are some of the more popular kinds of educational institutions that offer degrees or certificates to those who finish the programs and courses that they offer.
