Winning Steps to Help Me Find a Job

Career,Organizing
Most job seekers tend to approach the question of ‘what can help me find a job?’ with more than a touch of anxiety. But the search for a new job can actually be a positive, life-enhancing experience, allowing you to identify new directions of career growth and find unexpectedly fulfilling new roles.

Take A Chance and Chase Your Dreams

Create a list of career options that you have always wanted to explore, or which you believe will give you satisfaction and fulfillment. Don't limit your thinking at this stage. If you have been secretly dreaming of being a best-selling author, or start your own food truck, put them on the list. Do not limit your vision to things that you feel that you are qualified to do or jobs that are ‘safe’ or ‘sure’. Many job seekers who gave into the lure of security find themselves laid off with several other colleagues. On the other hand, those who have the courage to chance their passions often find long-lasting success even in the toughest markets.

Once you have a list of dream careers, look of role models – people who have achieved success in these fields. Look into their career choices and see what they did to reach where they are.

Start From a Position of Strength

Another great method is to reverse engineer the job search process. Instead of asking yourself ‘where I can find a job with my qualifications and experience?' ask what is it that I have that makes me special to the employers. Find out your strong points. For instance, are you a good teacher? Have your friends and family members complemented you on how well you explain things to them? Or are you a born communicator, with the gift of the gab and the ability to get people fired up and ready to rock?

Next, think of all the skills and experiences you have picked up on the way. Which of these did you really enjoy learning/ utilizing? Ask yourself ‘how can these skills help me find a job’. The idea is to look beyond the set of jobs offered by your core qualification or experience. For instance, you might have an accounting degree, but you still recall your part time job as a baker’s assistant in college as some of the best times in your life. This can very well be a hint to start your own catering service or even open a bakery of your own. Focus on what makes you come alive to get a job that makes the most of your unique skills, abilities and interests.

Don’t Forget to Do Your Homework

Nevertheless, it’s important to do your homework before taking the leap of faith. Many careers that sound exciting at first glance can turn out to be nothing like what you expected. Find out what's boring and unpleasant about a particular job, rather than just focusing on the perks or the attractions. This will help you make an informed choice as to whether the job is the right choice for you. Finally, consider starting out with a short internship or a part-time position.

Follow these tips to stop asking people to “help me find a job”.
