The four pilgrimages places which are situated at four different destinations in India are known as Char Dham. These holy places are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. These all four places have great importance in Hindu religion. People believe that journey to these four places will remove all sins from your life. Every year a large number of people from India and outside India visit this place. People of India try at least one time to visit these holy places. The meaning of Char Dham means the places of God in all four directions. The Char Dham Yatra begins from Yamunotri and ends at Badrinath. There are several routes and means of transport to visit these places. You can also chose air travel if you want to reach easily. Kedarnath: It is believed to be the place of Lord Shiva. People believe that Lord Shiva resides here. It is situated at an attitude of 3584 meters. It is also one of the Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This place is surrounded by mountains. The holy river Mandakni is present here. This place is also famous for several kundas and pools. You can also find snow capped mountain here. The famous home of Lord Shiva the Kailash hill is also situated here. Badrinath: Badrinath is also a famous place among Char Dham. It is believed that this is the place of Lord Vishnu and he resides here. The Badrinath temple is the largest temple among all five badri temples. It is situated on Himalaya in middle of Garhwal hills on the height of 10,284 feet above the sea level. Journey to this temple is very hard. The holy river Alaknanda is situated here. In 16th century king of Garhwal had this temple made. Yamunotri Dham: Yamunotri Dham is also a famous pilgrimage among four Dham. It is believed that it is home of Goddess Yamuna. It is situated in Uttarkashi. This place is well surrounded by forests and several mountains. The mountains impose each other. This holy place is situated in opposed to river Gangotri. The real source of Yamunotri is glacier which is at 4421 meter height from sea level. The glacier from where Yamunotri emerges known as Champasar Glacier. Gangotri Dham: It is another holy place of Char Dham. It is situated in Rudrapryag district. It is situated in bank of holy Ganga River. Gangotri is located in north part of Uttarakhand and overlapped with ice. When ice melts it take the form of river. Gangotri Dham is situated on height of 3048 meters above sea level. It is 250 km from Rishikesh and 30 km from Dehradun. The Gangotri Dham temple remains open from month of May to November throughout the year.
