Getting a good education is expensive literally. There is the tuition fee, the need to buy books, uniform, and school supplies. There should be a budget allotted for food and even snacks, and daily transportation if the school is a bit far. For younger children at preparatory or kindergarten, the need to hire a nanny or someone who could bring them to school and fetch them everyday is necessary if both of their parents are busy working and other family members or relatives are also not available. In the Philippines, education expenses depend on what type of institution the child goes to, whether it is a private or public, exclusive sectarian or non-sectarian school. Public schools are not totally free of tuition fee but a lot cheaper than any private school. There is only a standard small amount of fee required upon enrollment for miscellaneous expenses. The number of students per class is bigger and classrooms are limited. Some buildings are dilapidated especially in remote rural areas. Students from all walks of life are upkeep in one room. Hence, social and religious background creates more behavior problems and chaos. On the other hand, education fees at private institution vary from the size and type of school, whether it is run by nuns or priests or private individuals or corporation. The standard of training is stringent, the ratio of students per teacher in a class is smaller, and the facilities and environment are well maintained for conducive of training. Most private schools practice the English Only Policy or EOP since Philippines is using English as second language. There is really a big difference when it comes to standard education between Philippine public and private schools. Although some students from public schools excel during competitions, the general outcome of graduated students between public and private schools are really different. Standard education in private schools is advance and teachers are well-trained and monitored. This is because student population per class is limited, perhaps 15 to 20 students, and therefore the teacher can easily oversee every student’s concern. Whereas in public schools, a range between 40 to 60 students per class is quite a big challenge for every teacher to handle and this is one of the reasons that affect the education system of Philippine public schools. Some public schools also do not strictly use English Only Policy, thus, making some students not so well developed in their English communication skills. However, anyone can enhance their communication skills if they study English further not just by taking English course at an English language school but they can have all the resources in the internet and study English anytime and anywhere.
