After lunch he followed me back to my office and I gathered some information from him to run a couple of quotes. I am an independent agent so I represent a handful of top rated companies and shop for my customers with all the companies I have. After shopping around with my carriers I was able to find a rate that was about half of what my friend was dishing out. He was dumbfounded. He was stressing out about how he was going to pay his most recent increase in insurance bill and now realized that problem was solved. The rate was lower than what he was paying before his speeding ticket. He asked how it was possible. As I told him insurance carriers have varying prices and different ways to rate customers. The simple truth was he with a carrier who thought he was a risk and was charging him for it. It may have been a result of a number of things like his age, credit score, vehicle, address, etc. Whatever the reason he was paying more than he had too. I ended up insuring him with a carrier that decided he was not that big of a risk and offered a rate that was reflective of that.
