After we finished up lunch we went back to my office and I started working on some quotes for him. I am an independent agent so I represent a handful of top rated companies and shop for my customers with all the companies I have. After shopping around with my carriers I was able to find a rate that was about half of what my friend was dishing out. He was dumbfounded. He was losing sleep trying to figure out how to pay for his new jump in insurance premium and now he could relax. The rate was lower than what he was paying before his speeding ticket. He wondered how that rate was correct. As I explained to him insurance companies all have different rates and rating systems. Simply put he was insured with the wrong company who was not willing to offer him the best rate. It may have been a result of a number of things like his age, credit score, vehicle, address, etc. Whatever the reason he was paying more than he had too. I was able to insure him with a company that wanted him as a client and felt like he was not a big risk and it was reflected in his rate.
