A Wooden Music Stand can look elegant because of the several designs available, but it can turn out to be expensive, especially if you’re a beginner musician.
There is no doubt about the importance of a music stand, and most learners and amateurs usually prefer a metal stand because they tend to be affordable and does the job well. Most are also quite lightweight and foldable.
But then if you are an accomplished musician or want something that will complement the furnishings of your house, then a stand of wood will look much better. You also have the option of getting it made with good designs.
The fundamental function of a stand is to support sheet music so that performers can refer to the music while performing. A number of them are shorter whereas some other needs to be taller, depending on the music instrument that is being played. A few stands specifically for the conductor might also have placeholders to keep things such as the bow.
So when it comes to choosing, you have the option of Metal or a wooden one, the two most common material used.
Another thing to keep in mind when shopping for a stand is to make sure to consider the quality of the materials used. Whether it is made of wood or metal it has to withstand a lot of wear and tear. So ensure that it is strong, sturdy and durable.
But then when it comes to robustness and good looks, wood does have an upper hand. If you have lots of sheets and books then you want something that is sturdy, that is where wooden music stands are preferred. The downside obviously being they can be heavy and difficult to move around, unless you choose one of the lighter versions.
The other thing about wood is that you can get beautiful tailor made handcrafted wood music stand, making them look very up-market. When it comes to children, it’s a different thing altogether, as they want a bit of color in everything they use.
There is no doubt that a stand is an essential accessory for musicians, especially those who have to sight read. Take any orchestral instrument you will definitely need a music stand to hold the sheets. As far as the material to choose is concerned, it is more of a personal preference and also depends on whether you are a novice or an accomplished musician. Experienced classical music players usually prefer a wooden music stand whereas most beginners like to go in for one made of metal.
