News The AV Industry and Children's Hospices UK (26/10/2011) A Call to Industry Arms to Bring the Home Cinema Experience intothe Lives of Terminally Ill Children and the Families Since my last update at the beginning of September I am delightedto report that there has been significant progress in most areas, though there are still one or two areas where we are looking formore assistance. For ease of clarity I will cover these as bulletpoints as follows:- Industry Awareness Of The Project Grows. Thanks must go to the industry trade media for covering this storyin their respective magazines, be them in print or on line. Thecoverage is much appreciated and has helped raise awareness to alevel whereby there is every confidence that we will make thedifference that we intended to at the very start of this project.CEDIA have also pledged their support and are helping to promote totheir members which is helping to get qualified installers tomanage the install, as well as ensuring that we are offeredexcellent product to install. The future is such that we will needa PR company to help liaise with our trade press, as well as ourconsumer press. This is vital to further the industry awareness, aswell as ensuring that all those companies donating time or producttake advantage of a strong PR story/opportunity. Currently we arediscussing with a well known PR company who may well take this onfor us..., further updates to follow! Project Managers and Installers Come Forward To Offer Their Time ToHelp. A large thank you must to go to all companies that have comeforward and offered their time to help manage or install one ofthese projects. They include CEDIA installer members, UKdistributions companies and past clients that I have worked with inthe past. They will know who they are and unsurprisingly there aretoo many to list here! I would still ask that if there is anyoneinterested to help please let me know as we need to matchinstallers to a specific hospice and having a list of willinginstallers will make this process much easier. Manufacturers and Distributors Come Forward And Offer ComplimentaryProduct. Again, a big thank, you to all those companies that have comeforward and either offered or already donated product. We now havea bank of companies that we can turn to for many of the productsrequired, though further assistance with screens, projectors andmedia servers would be very welcome... If you can help, or knowanyone that might be able to, please let me know... Thanks must goto the following companies who have offered their support:- Aldous Systems Armour Home Audio Partnership plc B&WConnectivity UK Control4 Current Audio CYP Ltd DVDO Habitech LtdHumax Icon Distribution Indigo Distribution Invision UK Karma AVLenbrook Niko UK Onkyo Optoma Polk Audio Pulse Marketing RakoControls Redline Distribution S-AV Distribution TDI Group U-See Ltd Particular thanks must go to B&W who have already delivered asubstantial amount of product to me, to Polk who are holding asimilar amount until we can use it, and also to Habitech who havethemselves generated pretty much all the equipment required for theHome Cinema installation into the Children"s Hospice inWorcester. If you have offered support and I have not listed you then Iapologise..., an error on my part..., Please let me know and I willensure you are added to my list of companies having offered supportand will ensure you get a mention next time. The Matching Up Of A Project Manager / Installer With 5Children"s Hospices In The UK. The very great news is that there are now 5 Children"sHospices in the UK that we are in the very early stages of managinga Home Cinema installation, and these, with a brief description, are as follows:- Little Haven Children"s Hospice, Rayleigh: A single room homecinema installation. Project managed by Larry Brown at RayleighHi-Fi. Acorns in the Black Country, Walsall. A single room home cinemainstallation to double up as their dining room. Project managed byGary Mills at Decorum Technology. Acorns in the Three Counties, Worcester. A single room home cinemainstallation. Project managed by Jonathan Pengilly and Adrian Hicksat Habitech Limited. Northern Ireland Children"s Hospice, Belfast. Project managedby Matthew Booth at Indigo Distribution. Scottish Children"s Hospice, Edinburgh. A comprehensive multiroom home cinema, music gaming and internet installation. Projectmanaged by Allan Boyd at Loud and Clear. My thanks goes out to all of the above who I look forward toworking with to complete the first batch of Home Cinema Rooms forChildren"s Hospices in the UK. Assistance Still Required Just because we have the installs ‘in motion"doesn"t mean we don"t need more help... I have afeeling that when I receive the Kit Lists for the above jobs I willbe sending out requests for specific products that we currentlydon"t have any offers for. Please:- Let me know ifyou"re able to donate any type of product (screens, DVD/BluRay Players, media servers, projectors, easy to use remote controlsetc...) Let me know if you have any specific products thataren"t required anymore, or will be difficult to sell forwhatever reason, as they are still in perfect working order ofcourse). We will try to make use of these by placing them in asuitable location (for example Headley Court, the armyrehabilitation centre in Leatherhead, Surrey, or otherChildren"s Hospices). Let me know if you"re aware of any suitable location thatmight have use for any specific product. For example a good friendof mine in the industry has offered 12 plug and play SurroundBars, offering ‘a complete home theatre experience from a singlespeaker and an unobtrusive wireless subwoofer", and I canprobably use 6 or 7 but I know we would both want these being usedand enjoyed as soon as they can be... Any thoughts? On another note I wonder if there might be someone willing to storethese products that are donated. I live near Leatherhead (2m fromjunction 9 of the M25) and already have several boxes that I amstruggling to find a place for... If more product comes through Iwould need some local help to take on the storage and distributionof these products. Can anyone help? I know times are challenging at the moment but giving a little backis important and something that we as an industry can be proudof... With your help we can really make a difference, I can assureyou, once you see the results, you"ll be glad you did.
