Election polls also known as election surveys are used to estimate which candidate will win the election before any of the votes are counted. It is very important that polls are conducted correctly so that the results can be used to say whom the people are voting for. State by state polls need to be given the same way so the information is accurate throughout the country. There are many steps that go into conducting an election poll and they all need to be followed precisely in order for the poll to be considered accurate and usable for the election. Besides presidential polls senate polls are done when a new senate is being voted into office. You should only have a poll that sticks to one political party. It is going to take a lot of work to get your poll out there to get the results you need so focusing on one party will make it easier for you to find your target audience. Since you should only stick with one party then all of the questions in the poll should target that party as well. The questions should have a few choices for responses not just yes or no answers. People who are taking the poll may genuinely be undecided about a question so if you don't give them "undecided" as an option the poll will not be accurate. As a poll conductor you do not want to be all over the place with your views because then people won't think of your poll as accurate. People want to see you have a passion for one side or another and you are taking the poll and what they have to say seriously. To begin conducting an election poll the type of media used needs to be decided. The form of media selected needs to be able to reach a diverse audience. A few examples of a good media selection would be radio, television, or newspaper. With the web and blogging being as popular as it is today if you have a website or blog with a big following or know someone that has a website or blog with a big following it could be a good idea to post the poll to the site. The more media selections you have to get your poll out into the public the more accurate it will be since you have multiple ways that people can find you. It is much better to have your poll easily accessed by people instead of you giving it out. The people need to be random not hand chooses to answer the questions. It is better to have your poll open for a short amount of time and make it stand out to the people who are interested in participating in the poll that they have to respond by a certain time. The amount of time a poll stays open depends on how you are collecting the data. If you have the poll posted online a day or two would be plenty of time to leave it open. If you are getting the responses by phone or mail then leave it open for about a week or longer depending on the feedback you are getting and to make sure no one gets closed out before they can call or mail their response in. Conducting an election poll takes a lot of time and research and they also mean a lot for a big election like the president of the United States. It is in the best interest of everyone that both the poll conductor and the polltakers take their jobs seriously so the poll can be done right and used for the election. After all of your votes are in take time to tally up the results. Count the votes a few times and have another set of eyes count as well to ensure you don't miscount. After you tally the results you need to categorize the votes by the groups of people who placed them. If you seem to have a diverse group of responders then you probably have a good poll that will give you the answers you are looking for to see who will win the election. As a loyalty to your polltakers, it would be a good idea to try and get in touch somehow with the people to let them know the results of the poll and/or if it is even a reliable poll depending on the group of people. Having each person enter their email at the time they are casting their vote is a good way to be able to get in touch with everyone easily. This may take a lot of work on the poll creator's end but it will please the polltakers and it will make them want to take another one of your polls if you choose to conduct another.
