Organized by the German Geo Consultants Group (3G), the 2nd Geospatial Conference in Tunis (GCT) was held from February 18 – 22, 2013 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Tunis-Gammarth under the patronage of the Tunisian Minister for Information and Telecommunication Technologies, Dr. Mongi Marzoug. More than 200 visitors from European and North African countries attended the GCT2013. The conference featured for the first time a dedicated workshop day by Hexagon Geo Systems, the principal sponsor of the GCT, and by Esri, the market leader in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The following three conference days with industry and government presentations focused on geospatial technology, applications, projects and services, accompanied by a B2B exhibition in which 23 international and 10 local companies participated. As the only industry-solutions oriented geospatial conference and exhibition series in North Africa, the GCT had several core objectives: • bring geospatial technology and relevant solutions to North African decision makers; • offer international and local geospatial companies a regional platform for their products and services; • initiate and facilitate new connections and collaboration between international and local industry participants, their existing and prospective clients; • create awareness for geospatial solutions to manage and build infrastructure projects in the region. The local government presentations and the speech by the Tunisian Minister for Regional. Development, Mr. Jamaleddine Gharbi, stressed that geospatial technology and information systems are considered an essential element to develop the economies and create qualified employment in this knowledge-and technology-based industry sector.
