Top Five Reasons for Visiting Switzerland

Travel & Tourism
Switzerland is a landlocked country, neighboring Germany, Italy, France, Austria and Liechtenstein, which makes it a great base for exploring Western Europe. It's a superb destination in itself, also, though. Actually here are 5 reasons why you should visit Switzerland.

- The Swiss Alps

The wonderful thing about the Swiss Alps is something that you should see in person, which you can only do, naturally, when you visit Switzerland. The easiest way to try this is by following one of the breathtaking hiking trails in the Alps in the summer, especially those in the Jungfrau Area and round the Matterhorn, one of the most astounding mountain tops in Switzerland. There additionally are chances for pony trekking and cycling, as well as glacier hiking and glacier climbing. The Swiss Alps are similarly impressive in winter when they're covered with snow, and become one of the very best places in the world for skiing. Some of the finest ski destinations in the Alps include Zermatt, Champery, Crans-Montana and Davos, which is also a paradise for snowboarders, though the most well liked one in Switzerland is the classy St. Moritz resort in the Engadine Valley.

- Rhine Falls

Apart from amazing mountains, Switzerland also has awe-inspiring bodies of water, like the Rhine Falls. Found in Schaffhausen, these waterfalls are the biggest not merely in the country, but in all of Europe, soaring from a height of approximately seventy five feet and spanning 450 feet in width, making them really a fantastic sight, whether in summer or in winter when it gets partly frozen. There are many glittering lakes in Switzerland, which are perfect places for a chilled cruise, like Lake Geneva, Lake Lucerne and Lake Neuchatel, the biggest in Switzerland. - Swiss Food Switzerland has a varied cuisine, with influences from its surrounding states. If you're in the canton of Vaud near France, for instance, you'll find yourself treated to French dishes like a dish of leeks and potatoes with Saucisson ( filled sausages ) ; if you're close to the German border, you'll find German-influenced specialties, and if you're somewhere around Lake Maggiore near Italy, you may have a stomach full of pasta and risotto. The most renowned Swiss foods, though, are Swiss cheese or Emmentaler and Swiss chocolate, made with the milk that comes from the herds of cows grazing in the Alpine valleys. Indeed, there are several cafes serving cheese fondue and many shops where you should purchase Swiss cheese - without or with holes. There are a few chocolate factories you can tour, also, when you visit Switzerland, and, many types of chocolate you can take home with you, like Nestle, Toblerone and Lindt. - Shopping Except for buying Swiss cheese and chocolates, there are a lot of other stuff you should buy when you visit Switzerland. Swiss watches, naturally, are on the head of the list, since they're considered the best worldwide, with top brands like Rolex, Swatch and Tissot. In reality Swiss watches are worn by the planet's best divers, pilots and astronauts and even James Bond personally. You may wish to get a legitimate Swiss army knife, also, or buy mementos like cowbells, music boxes, crystal ornaments and leather products. - Museums and Important Monuments For a small country, Switzerland has many museums - all of which you can tour when you visit Switzerland. The hottest ones include the Swiss Transport Museum and the Glacier Garden in Lucerne, the Swiss Nationwide Museum in Zurich, the World Red Cross Museum in Geneva and the Alprose Museum in Lugano. Switzerland also has its share of noteworthy significant monuments, like Gruyere Castle, Lenzburg Castle and the well-preserved Abbey Library of St. Gallen, which are all worth visiting.
