The bay of Jimbaran is found a little to the south of the global airport and Kuta beach. Its change from knackered fishing town to five-star destination took place during the 1980's. Though home to one or two mid market hostels Jimbaran Bay is famous for the choice of five-star boutique hostels that now call this perfect piece of shangri la home. Though Jimbaran Bay homes some of the best five star hotels globally, its origins are based mostly on the fishing town that remains totally operational today. Jimbaran is not like plenty of other coastlands in Bali that have totally converted from fishing towns into traveler haunts bursting with umbrellas, hawkers and surfboards. The bay exploits its natural potential as a fishing hamlet with the creation of rows of seafood cafes serving a regular catch of fresh fish and shellfish. Jimbaran is now known worldwide as a paradise for the best seafood (both raw and processed) the island of Bali has to give. This tiny strip of shangri la is thought of as the final mixing of relaxed atmosphere and boutique style accommodation. There are 3 distinguishable bunches of seafood cafes along the stretch of beach that function as a major visitor draw card in the evenings when the Bay becomes lit up by picture perfect sunsets. A rising number of boutique shops are starting to appear in the area but there remains no nightlife. It's suggested visitors arrive by 5pm, take up a prime position in one of many eateries, order a meal and experience the perfect, romantic sunsets. The atmosphere is relaxed though engaging with a swathe of activity to take in while enjoying a pre-dinner drink or cocktail. The beach itself is recognized as among the best Bali has to give. Fine white powdered sand and calm crystal waters make it intensely conducive to swimming and water activities for youngsters and families. A chilled wander through the highways of Jimbaran is an escapade in itself as you take it the sights, sounds and smells of the neighborhood. A standard fish market still operates at the north end of the beach diagonally opposite to Jalan Tukad Ayung. The fresh daily catch arrives in the market each morning and buyers include some of Bali's best diners. It is smart to visit the market between 6am and 8am to completely luxuriate in the experience.
