Mumbai, previously Bombay, is the capital of the state of Maharashtra. Mumbai is a natural harbour located at the mouth of Brook Ulhas on the westerly coast of India. Mumbai lies along the coast of Arabian Sea at an elevation of bare fourteen meters from the sea level. Mumbai is the most very populated town of India and the 5th most populous town of the Earth. Mahabaleshwar is a stunning hill station hidden away in the Western Ghats in the Satara District of Maharashtra. Situated at an altitude of 1353 kilometers above the sea level, Mahabaleshwar is the personification of natural beauty. Found at a distance of 285 kilometers south-west of Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar is encircled by valleys at all sides. Mahabaleshwar comprises of 3 hamlets Malcolm Peth, Old Kshetra Mahabaleshwar and Shindola and lies on a level of with an area of about 150 square kilometers. Both Mumbai and Mahabaleshwar are found in the state of Maharashtra and the space between both is about 221 km by road. The time brought to reach from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar by road is about four hours. Since it's a hill resort, Mahabaleshwar has no aeroport or train line station of its own. The closest aeroport is at Pune, and it's well connected with Mumbai. Those who want to go by air can reach Pune and hire a taxi or board a bus to reach Mahabaleshwar. The rail terminal closest to Mahabaleshwar, which is explicitly attached to Mumbai, is Wathar ( WTR ). From here, one can hire taxi or hop into a bus to go on to Mahabaleshwar. Some of the trains that run along this route are Koyna Express ( 11029 ) and the Sahyadri Express ( 11023 ) amongst others. Online ticket reservation is possible if one want to go by train. Buses are the other choices to travel from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar. There are many buses (both administration operated and personal operated) that ply between both the places regularly. Many kinds of buses from non A / C luxury bus to A / C Volvo operate between the 2 locations and one can select the one most fitted to one's budget.
