Hey this is Vivek Mehrotra ,Here's the thing: The most dangerous line in the English language is "I know everything" True, is it not? You should always be teachable, you should always be ready to learn, this "Mr Know it ALL" attitude will take you nowhere, being teachable means that you should keep your mind and ears open for new knowledge, and yes of course, god has given you 2 ears and one mouth, you should use them proportionately. So, ask yourself, are you teachable? I am gonna show you some of the factors because of which you become less teachable: 1. Inflated ego- This is the person who genuinely believes they are better, smarter, faster than those around them, and they are unteachable for that very reason. If you really believe yourself superior to others, then you will also have the attitude that there is nothing others can teach you. How could they? They are the inferior ones. Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. 2. Self-loathing- it works like this, example- I don’t feel like I’m particularly smart, but I want you to think I am smart. So, what am I going to do? First, I might pretend like I am smarter than I really am. If I let you see that I’m not as smart as I want you to believe I am, then you might not accept me. 3. It’s all I’ve ever known- I(Vivek Mehrotra), hate those people who do not believe in teh world outside of their 'radar screen', or the 'limited domain'- READ THIS story- There once was a land where all the wagons were painted red. Red was the only colour ever used, because everybody knew that red was the colour of wagons. No one questioned this, and no one thought of painting their wagon any other colour. Then a man came from another place far away. He was intrigued by all of the red wagons. Where he came from, he told people, all of the wagons were blue. People were shocked. Blue wagons? Impossible! The man must be lying. Wagons are red, and that is that. The visitor was promptly beaten and cast out of the land for spreading lies about blue wagons. The man picked himself up and returned to his own country, where all the wagons were blue. He began to tell people about this strange place he had been where the wagons were all red. Needless to say, this didn’t go down well. Red wagons? Impossible! Doesn’t he know all wagons are blue? A meeting was called of The Council, where it was the unanimous decision that the man had gone insane on his travels, for he had come home with tales about red wagons. It was therefore decided to lock him up in a asylum until he gained his senses again.(for more of such stories- CLICK HERE) 4. Apathy – the I don’t care factor- If you try to tell someone something that they have no interest in, don’t be surprised if they come across as unteachable. I am sure now you can tell yourself if you are teachable or not, or if the other person is teachable or not. But can you measure to what extent you are teachable? NO(I am sure), that's why I am gonna give you a quantitative measure of teachability, know as TEACHABILITY INDEX- simple, just think of these 2 things: 1. willingness to learn- do you really wish to learn? if yes, then what can you sacrifice in order to learn? Can you give up or invest your time and money? Measure it on a scale of 1-10. 2. willingness to accept change- Measure it on a scale of 1-10. then multiply these 2 quantities, you will get you score out 100, always try to increase this score out of 100, you will keep growing!
