What To Consider When Choosing A Juicer

Food & Beverages,Business
People who enjoy eating healthy can appreciate the value of owning a juicer to make their own nutritious drinks. Since there is a wide selection of these appliances on the market, it pays to their strengths and weaknesses and most importantly which one is best-suited to meet the user's needs. Keeping these points in mind can be helpful when shopping for a juicer.

The first thing to do is determine what the main purpose of the machine will be. A citrus juicer is used for oranges and grapefruits to simply juice them. Masticating models work on lower speeds, finely grinding produce which causes less oxidation and preserves much of the nutrients. Centrifugal designs are best for most tougher fruits and vegetables as it uses a higher speed. A hydraulic press model produces the highest quality juice due to the low oxidation.

There are some models which are made to reduce waste of the fruits and vegetables being juiced. This is best achieved if the particular design has a larger pulp receptacle and feed chute, which is also helpful in reducing preparation time as larger pieces can be introduced to the machine. The pulp is used by some people for various recipes such as baked goods, soups, and sauces.

The appearance of the machine and how easily it can be stored are also points to consider. Stainless steel designs are quite popular for their attractiveness and are typically good quality as well. A smart design should be easier to clean, with fewer moving components. A filter screen which has smaller holes and is makes less mess around and should be removable, along with the pulp container. If these parts can be put in the top rack of a dishwasher, it is even better.

The yield is the number of ounces of juice for each pound of produce being juiced. A higher yield is most often found with better quality models, which typically produce about 17-25 % more than their less expensive counterparts. If the pulp is kept within the appliance, a higher volume of juice is the result.

A juicer's speed of operation has a large effect on the quality of juice it will produce. High-speed, centrifugal models usually run at about 3000-7000 revolutions per minute and are capable of producing a full glass of juice in seconds, however the heat and oxidation which are generated reduce the potency of the enzymes and vitamins in the drink. Models with lower speeds run quieter and produce a more nutrient-rich juice, yet they also tend to wear out sooner as the slower speed places more stress on the motor.

A quality product should come with a longer warranty coverage. The very minimum should be one or two years, but many well-built appliances offer warranties for five or ten years. Inexpensive models usually only offer 30-90 day warranties and if used regularly, it is quite possible that the machine will break down by this time or earlier.

Buying a juicer that is made by a reputable manufacturer is recommended. These models are likely to perform better and last longer and there is also the matter of finding replacement parts if the situation arises. If consumers pay attention to these guidelines it will increase their chances of finding a juicer that will serve them for many years.
