In 1919, as Europe issued from the 1st World War, travel moved into the front line of people's minds. Buoyed up on the new technologies of the day, the antecedent of BA, Aircraft Transport and Travel ( ATT ), launched the planet's first daily world prepared air service. It offered a service from London to Paris and announced the modern age of air travel. Inside five years there were already a few startup airlines offering their services in The United Kingdom. In March 1924, the 4 well known of these : Handley Page, Instone, ATT, and UK Air Sea Navigation combined into one bigger company called Imperial Airways and offered flights round the UK Empire. As Imperial Airways grew in size, it changed into a precursor to a modern airline, offering flights to states all around the globe including Canada and Australia, and competed effectively with the blimps that ruled the age. In 1935, a rival arrived on the scene. Brit Airways L.T.D was formed from numerous little privately held corporations and swiftly became a company of similar size. By 1939, just before the second World War broke out, the UK Administration nationalised the 2 airlines and made a new, govt. owned agency called the English Overseas Airways Co. or BOAC for short. The final stage in these early decades of BA came in 1949, when BOAC was separated into 2 separate entities: Brit Western european Airways, which carried out short haul flights into Europe, and BOAC, which continued to serve the rest of the planet. These 2 brothers served the world at the start of the jet age in the 1950s, and became classic leaders of English invention. By the 1970s, fuel costs and economic worries over economy saw the governing body of the day decide the 2 firms had become swollen and ineffective and by 1974, after a four year process, the tow corporations came together as one : British Airways, suitably timed for the arrival of the supersonic age with the Concorde in 1976.
