Let’s face it, not everything is created equal, and that does not exclude humans. Other people may seem to have it all, while some hardly have any. The bottom line is, life is unfair. Not everyone gets to have all the life’s pleasures served to them on a silver platter. For some, they have to work hard for it. And yet, on the other side of the coin, even though it seems that some people may have it all, they still sense that something is missing—that life’s not yet good enough. You see, man naturally has no contentment. One day he sees the world as the perfect place to live in, and come another day he wants to change what he thought was already perfect. Discontentment isn’t always bad; in fact, it makes us strive to better things and ourselves. However, lack of contentment seems to be associated to frustration and lack of appreciation, which in turn can give people the feeling of insufficiency. These people tend to see themselves as someone incomplete, and as a result, they indulge in self-pity. Although you don’t have everything, that doesn’t have to be a reason for you not to be happy. It boils down to perspective; the way you see the world will affect how you think, what you say, what you do, and how you feel; and this is where positive thinking comes to play. Learn how to be an optimistic person by reading the tips listed below. 1. Appreciate yourself. It’s true that we tend to be hard on ourselves. In fact, we are our greatest critics. We see ourselves less than ideal when we are beautiful in our own special ways. To start with, face the mirror and talk to the person you see in front of you. Smile and appreciate the beauty of that person. Whenever the negativity strikes, shrug the thought off. Remember this: before someone else will give their love to you, you first must give it to yourself. 2. Learn to take compliments. Whenever some people throw praises at us, we oftentimes are too shy to acknowledge what was said. We then say, “That’s not true,” or “You’re just messing with me.” Is it that hard to say “Thank you?” Perhaps, our attempt to put modesty on the facade screens how it is to feel good about the positive things others say to us. Additionally, we are giving ourselves the impression that we don’t deserve their praises. If someone extended their appreciation on your stunning outfit and your good choice of iPhone accessory, then just smile and say “Thank you.” 3. Turn your weaknesses into strengths. Every person who stepped in this world has his/her own set of insecurities. No matter how big or small, it can affect a person more than he/she can imagine. There are only 2 ways to face our insecurities, and I repeat, only 2 ways. It’s either you accept and live with them, or make your insecurity an inspiration to care for yourself better and strive for improvement. 4. Spread the good vibes. Happiness can be found anywhere around you; all you have to do is look around and search for it. Or better yet, start it yourself. Perform some random acts of kindness. Instead of buying a brand new rotating case stand, why don’t you just use your old one and use the money you saved to feed homeless children? Not only this allows you to help them, you’re doing yourself a favor as well by making yourself feel good inside. As the saying goes, “Nobody’s perfect.” But, that should not stop you from seeing the best in you. It’s true, you can’t have everything; however, you don’t actually need to have everything just to be happy. Happiness is a choice, and once you made that choice, you will genuinely be ecstatic about yourself no matter if you have it all or not.
