Singapore Travel Guide

Travel & Tourism
This is a dispatch on what living in Singapore is like. It may also function as a travel report for your next trip to Singapore. Singapore is a town in South East Far East and it's situated just beneath Malaysia and to the West of Indonesia. It's a tiny island and currently has about 5,000,000 inhabitants. It is awfully tropical and hot with temperatures always above 30C. It sometimes only rains about once per day for approximately 30 minutes but there additionally are periods (like now) when there's barely and periods when there's more. The vast majority of the population is Chinese descendants that came to Singapore in the early 1800s to work in the recently established port. A lot of them talk mandarin though everybody in Singapore is taught in English with mandarin and Malay also being taught. The other three population groups are the Malays, the Indians and the Caucasians. All of these groups have a totally different culture and practice a different faith but Singapore is proud of its variety and everybody here appears to get on well. Singapore is a clean and secure place to live which is probably one of the reasons I like being here. All of the streets are truly clean and look gorgeous and in numerous places they're encircled by lush tree and plants. Explore the numerous cultures Singapore is the ideal place to go if you would like to have a little taste of East Asia, but still like the indulgence of an especially clean town, folks that talk English and amazing shopping. Though it's an extraordinarily modern town there are still places in Singapore where you can still experience the Asian culture. Arab street: this is the conventional neighborhood of the Malay folks. You'll be able to find the mosque here and some smashing old fashioned streets with very little shops. Small India: As fast as you step foot in this bit of city, the majority of the people on the streets are Indian as are the bistros and shops and you get a feeling of being in India. Chinatown: beautiful antique shops, churches and many lovely old shop houses make this a nice place to explore. Raffles Hotel : this place served as a place of peace for the Continentals in colonial times. Today it's a wonderful place to investigate the museum, flick thru some shops, have a drink at the long bar or sit on the outside patio though Singapore appears to have a rep of being 'boring" the town is working conscientiously to get shot of this image. The formula one race is now held here every year and two casinos are being built. There are many nice cafeterias and cafes here. I simply love to go outside in the evening with minimum clothing on when the temperature is so wonderful and sit at one of many patios outside. Clarke dock: if you suspect that Singapore isn't an occurring place then visit Clarke dock a really busy part of the town with numerous hip oratories bars and dives. One place I like there's the 1NiteStand comedy bar where they have fantastic stand-up comedy and life bands. Though I now like Clarke Harbour this is still an enjoyable and taking place where many expats and visitors hang out. Dampsey Hill: this used to be where the previous UK armed forces barracks were; nonetheless it has been turned into a fashionable area with up market oratories and specialist shops. Holland town: a great and casual place to meet up for drinks, coffee or visit one of many cafes. Raffles Hotel long bar: historically THE place to go for a Singapore sling. Hawker centers: if you would like to eat the Singaporean way try one of many hawker centers where you can eat awfully cost-effectively. Few towns are as green and delightful as Singapore. There are numerous places to go for a ramble and discover new trees and plants. These are some of my faves : Singapore floral gardens : gorgeous gigantic park with glorious gardens Bukit Timah nature reserve : for the ones that need to be in the jungle and have a rather more challenging walk McRitchie nature reserve : masses of wonderful and tranquil walks here. From here you may also do the Tree Top Walk which can give you an alternative viewpoint on the Singapore's trees. The Singapore zoo is a gorgeous nature walk all on it's own. The zoo grounds are splendidly lush and obviously it is fun to encounter some wonderful animals on the way.
