There are so many different kinds of charm bracelets on the market today. The most common type is a silver snake chain bracelet. This new modern design differs from the old style chain link bracelet quite considerably. The differences lie in both the bracelet and charm construction and the methods for fastening the charms onto the bracelets. Old style charm bracelets had simple clasps and were made of either sterling silver or gold. As they consisted of chain links, the charms usually contained a clip that fastened onto a link, allowing the charm to dangle down from the bracelet. However, the new style of snake chain makes the charm bracelet into a solid piece of jewellery that can therefore accommodate a far greater number of charms. These charms also are attached differently. From companies such as Trollbeads and Chamilia to Lovelinks and Pandora, the large majority of modern charms are machined with a hollow centre. This allows the charms to be threaded onto the snake chain securely. In addition it creates the appearance of the charms sitting on the bracelet as opposed to dangling down. Some companies, such as Pandora, have gone as far as to patent a technique whereby their charms contain threads like that of a screw. This ensures that the charm is firmly secure over the threaded ends of the pandora bracelet and onto the chain. It also has the added bonus for the company that their charms cannot be used on other branded bracelets. Conversely, other brands charms will not fit over the threaded ends of a Pandora charm bracelet. Another point worth noting is that charm bracelets are now available in a variety of different styles. You can still find chains like the old style, available in gold and silver. However, the regular charms with the hollow centre will not fit onto these chains. Instead, you can buy dangling pendant charms, which are very similar in style to the original charms that people used to wear. But bracelets made out of materials such as multi-stranded silk string and interwoven leather are now increasingly popular as well. You can find sterling silver bracelets available with polished or matte finishes and even oxidised silver to create a dark black look. Another interesting feature of the charm bracelet renaissance is the growing popularity amongst male customers. The likes of top jewellery designers Thomas Saboo, Aagaard for Men and Blog have all capitalised on this by producing beefier versions of the delicate bracelet and charms aimed at women. Men’s charm bracelets tend to be much thicker and feature rugged looking charm designs in polished or matte steel.
