Mixed martial arts is one of the oldest and most developed sports in all of history. From countries originating from all over the world such as Greece, Rome, Japan Thailand and Brazil. Mixed martial arts has developed, changed and has been through ups and downs, but this is how MMA gear and boxing equipment was created. Boxing equipment and MMA gear are huge industries all over the world because international boxers and fighters need to put their safety first when training. Why practice vigorous routines, multiple weigh-ins, and constant improvement of your physical fitness when you cannot protect your knuckles or other bones and muscles of your body? As MMA and boxing have both developed as sports, they have also developed in the apparel that is worn such as boxing gloves and MMA gear. In the early days of mixed martial arts and boxing, they were not called this and there was no such thing as boxing equipment such as headgear, mouth guards, boxing gloves or heavy bags for training. The earliest form of mixed martial arts was known as Pankration and was an Olympic sport coined by the Greek and the Romans. This sport was a mixture of wrestling and boxing with hardly any rules except for no eye gouging and no biting. The only thing this fighter had to protect their hands was a thin leather strap; these were their form of boxing gloves. Later on, the metal studs were added to the leather strap boxing gloves therefore this sport has a reputation for its brutality. This type of boxing was ban in ancient Greece 30 BC, for its brutality and lack of protection, which resulted in several deaths. Boxers reappeared in the 1600s and more modern boxing gloves were created referred to as ???mufflers' and created by Jack Broughton, the British bare-knuckle fighter. These types of boxing gloves were only used in training and practice; bare knuckles were still used in public matches. The end of fighting with bare knuckles was when John Graham Chambers codified boxing rules in Queensbury, England, which is now the standard of modern day boxing. He established the rules, which required that every athlete must wear boxing gloves. The history of MMA and the events leading up what we now know as boxing has a very rich history. Boxing equipment, boxing gloves and MMA gear would no exist if it wasn't for its history and development through many civilizations. A common myth that has been rumored about boxing gloves is that boxing gloves only protect the person on the other side of the swing, that they only protect your opponent from getting injured. Completely false! It was not only because people were injuring and ultimately combatting opponents to death, but because they were hurting themselves also. Without the proper boxing equipment and boxing gloves, your hands and wrists can be permanently damaged. There are so many small bones that are very fragile in a humans' hand, boxing gloves protect the person wearing the boxing equipment most importantly.
