Are you aware that there are actually proven ways to make your kids smarter? Take a look at the list below to know what are the ways to increase your child’s IQ. 1. Nurse your baby. The etymological meaning of the term “nursing” is to nourish, and that’s what people mean when they say nurse your baby. Breastfeeding is far better than bottle-feeding in terms of nutrition. Not only that the mother’s milk is more nutritious, it also allows the mother to pass the antibodies to the infant for a stronger immunity. A study from McGill University in Montreal shows a clear casual connection of breastfeeding and IQ scores. Children at the age of six-and-a-half who were breastfed scored 7.5 points higher on verbal IQ tests compared to bottle-fed children. 2. Get physical. It is a fact that children concentrate and behave better after a physical activity, but that isn’t its only benefit. Dutch researchers found out that kids’ cognitive scores and grades are higher if they have outlets other than pure academics, like gym class or recess. Encourage your children to play sports to increase their IQ. 3. Minimize junk foods. A study published in the Journal of Epidemiological Community Health shows that a high-sugar, high-fat diet leads to lower IQs in kids. The researchers tracked the eating habits of 4,000 children by age 3 and tested their intelligence by the age of 8 ½. Findings show that the kids who ate more processed foods had IQ scores 1.67 points lower than kids who ate more healthy foods. 4. Love music. A test-retest study conducted by researchers from the University of Toronto measured the IQ of 6 to 11 year old kids before and after music or drama sessions. It was found out that the children who are in the music group had the more IQ increase, since music lessons expose kids to experiences that help them in many areas. The drama group on the other hand also had an IQ increase, but not as much compared to the music group. 5. Pour some fish oils. The brain is actually a chunk of lard, and nothing nourishes it better than intake of fat—the healthy kind. According to a study from New York University, DHA omega-3 fatty acids that are found in fish and other seafood can boost intelligence. It has been found out that infant IQ can increase up to 3.5 points when mothers get over 1,000 mg of DHA daily while pregnant or when nursing their babies. 6. Bring on the breakfast. Everyone knows that children who start their days with a healthy breakfast are more focused at school and tend to get higher grades. There is one program conducted by Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Maryland that proves this. The program offered kids a healthy breakfast in participating elementary schools, regardless of income. The scores on state assessment tests significantly improved, while tardiness and absenteeism greatly fell. Raising children isn’t as easy as using your handsfree devices. You have to be hands-on with them. Be involved in shaping your child’s future. Find ways for them to be smarter, but most importantly teach them how to be a good person.
