People depend on police to protect their lives and property. The police perform duties in different ways. The law enforcement bodies define the composition of public safety in Spain. Spain has three type of police force. Each of the police force has a defined role, with different uniform and training. The police are commonly known as policia. The three different types of policia and their work are as follows:- 1. Municipal or local policia: These policia are responsible for enforcing compliance with the village or local town. They wear navy uniform with blue shirts. They are the one to help you out when you are in trouble against a business or neighbor. They are the one to take care of your town or village. Their duties are to control traffic, excessive noise, parking, neighbor problem, place of entertainment and bars are closed on time or not with that they keep an eye on minor offences. The local policia resolves every minor problem’s of your life. Suppose if you have problem with neighbor noisy dog, you can call the policia and they will resolve your problem. They are always there for you whenever you need them. But if you want to get help from them, all you have to do is make a complaint. 2. The Policia Nacional: Also known as Cuerpo Nacional de Policia. They wear black uniform with white shirts. These forces are under the Spain’s Ministry of the Interior. They handle matters related to judicial, terrorism, criminal and immigration. In major town and cities were foreigner’s wants a residential permit there are policia nacional police station. The foreigners who want to apply for resident permit apply the documents at policia nacional police station. Just like any other country, the policia nacional has specially trained unit to deal with drugs, fraud, murder, immigration, money laundering, well planned crime etc. If you are a victim or a witness of a crime you should contact the nacional policia to get help. 3. Gaurdia Civilian or the Civil Guard: It is a military force that operates mainly in the rural area.They were recognized by their distinctive hats and green formal uniform by the foreigner visitors also. They are present in the country to deal with the crime. The policia stations from where they operate are known as gaurdia policia station. Their main responsibility are mounting speed traps, patrol the road and motorways, checking driving license, insurance and other motoring documents. The gaurdia policia also look after illegal immigration, drug and other illegal activities. The policia in Spain are a boon to the country.
