Every employer knows that the success of his or her business depends on the quality of the employees. That is why it is important that you have a good process for new hires—this is where you get employees who will be important to the company’s success in the first place.

But in many companies today, the onboarding process is something that is usually overlooked or neglected. Too often, new hires get into the work without proper awareness and understanding of the company, their job duties as well as the expectations of the employers. No wonder, many new hires, after a few months in the job, gets dissatisfied and leave. This results in lost productivity and direct costs in hiring and training new ones to replace those who left.

Here are some essential tips every employer should know when dealing with new employees so that both parties will benefit from working with each other and truly achieve a lasting employment relationship.

Have the orientation and employment policy in writing

Every new employee should be given a proper orientation procedure, without doubt, but the orientation and employment policy should be detailed and written. The policy—which contains information about the company, the mission and vision of the employee, and results expected of the new hires—should be compiled in a manual, where every one—from the employer to the hiring manager down to the new employee—can look and refer to from time to time.

Do not forget the welcoming tour

One way of showing your new hires that they are warmly welcomed to the company is by giving them a welcoming tour of the company’s building, including the departments and other facilities. It will not do the company harm if the new hires are given a tour of the place where they will be working. It will not also harm the company if the new hires will know where the bathrooms and cafeteria are located.

The welcoming tour will be even better if the bosses and superiors are available to welcome and greet the new hires. An element of an effective employee onboarding process is by raising a harmonious relationship between the new hires and the people at the top of the company management.

Review the benefits and perks

In most of the time, new hires are always eager to learn more about the benefits offered to them by the company, as well as the perks they are entitled when they start working for the company. The employee onboarding process is a good time to tell how much the company will pay them for their work and the benefits and perks that come with it.

Make the employment paperwork automated and streamlined

Streamlining and automating the employment process for new hires is one good way of showing them how much the company welcomes and values them.
