Perhaps one of the most important days in your life will be your wedding day and one of the first things you will do as husband and wife, will be your first dance together at your reception. This is something you want to choose carefully. You want to be sure that you go with a song that fits you and your new spouse perfectly, something that your guests will cherish and think of your wedding when they hear the song and more importantly that you remember 10, 20 or 50 years down the road. Factors to Consider You should choose your song with care. Take time to think about such things as the length of the song as well as the type of song. You want to go with something that is romantic, not depressing and you want to pick a song that has meaning to you and your loved one. The song should have a good beat (either slow or fast), after all you want something that you can grab your partner and dance to. There are some great love songs out there but they just don't have the right beat to get up and dance to. The length of the song is also important as your guests can get bored waiting for a 7 minute song to end. It is a good rule of thumb to go with a song that is at least 2 to 3 minutes long. If you are going with a DJ and the song you really want is a long one, you can have the DJ cut the song down by fading out at a certain part and fading back in with music all can join in and dance to. If you are taking dance lessons then you can look into such songs as a bridal waltz but just keep in mind that you want to keep it at an ideal length and great actual 3 step waltz songs are hard to find. How will the song start? This can be just as important as the song it self. You want to rehearse the dance or at least go over how you will start the dance. Some couples like to go out on the floor together where others like to meet in the middle of the dance floor. Then you want to consider how you will end the dance. Some newlyweds love to add some flare and end the dance with a passionate kiss or you can simply bow and end it gracefully. You need to talk with your DJ as well as your photographer so that everyone is on the same page. This way they can get the music cued up just right as well as capture the best pictures and angles of the two of you on the dance floor. You want to be sure that your first song is perfect and says what the two of you mean to each other as well as letting all of the guests join in with your special moment. One last tip is to spend an afternoon with your partner and browse through both of your CD collections / ipods and write down your top 10 possible first dance songs. Then grab a glass of nice white and have a dance to each song. See what works best for both of you!
