Temperatures in Sydney are rising fast and could increase by nearly 4C by 2050, ABC (Australia) has reported. According to The Centre for Excellence for Climate System Science at the University of New South Wales, there have already been rises and much of it is down to new developments. Daniel Argueso, lead researcher on the project, told the channel that there’s already been some changes that residents would have noticed: "These changes have already been happening in areas we have built but it's been little by little, and there hasn't been a massive change in the night temperature due to climate change." Interestingly, it’s believed that residents will notice the difference most after dark when buildings release the heat they’ve absorbed during the day. The key to helping keep temperatures down is to introduce more green spaces, parks and lakes. "Also, locate areas that provide a source of water, like ponds or water surfaces, that might have to evaporate some water and provide a cool effect," (ABC Australia) reported Mr Argueso as saying. Staying in a Sydney has recently looked into using only renewable energy resources to provide all it’s energy needs. According to a draft blueprint it could be possible to use carbon free electricity from wind and solar sources for 30%, with the remainder created from gas captured from waste.
