Business cards are usually used for formal introductions. These cards are typically printed on a thick paper stock. This stock is thicker than the writing paper but thinner than card stock used for other purposes such as carton packing and making material. Typical business cards are printed on a 12 pt thick card. Thinner or thicker card stocks other than this value can also be used for making business cards. We do not give business cards much importance yet we all keep our business cards always in our wallet to give them to someone who might be useful for us in any way in the coming future. The modern business cards have evolved from two very distinct routes and histories. In the recent past of previous 400 years, we find that people started to use some forms of visiting cards. It became etiquette in civilized Europe to show your visiting card when arriving at the home of a person of importance. This card was viewed by the lady of the house to judge the importance of the card presenter and deal with him or her accordingly with the customs of that time. These visiting cards however were only popular in noble and rich people while poor and country people did not have the knowledge of such customs and could not afford these luxuries any way in their already difficult lives. At the same time, trading cards were used in both the United Kingdom and later in the United States as marketing tools and address and price guides and lists. Merchants used these cards to display the price of their most prominent commodity as well as a general map that could guide people to their shop. This method was popular as no other medium of information was developed or available at the time. As the newspaper medium increased the need for trading cards decreases and both the trading cards and visiting cards gradually merged more or less into business cards of today. Business cards can reflect your personality when they are in the hands of a person who does not know you in person. They in fact can be a direct reflection of your quality of life and social status in an unknown person’s eye. There are many kinds of business cards available which can be printed in various ways. Some of them still use to be in black print against a white background which can be prepared through many means. These days, color business cards are readily available and people use different color combinations to create very exclusive color business cards. High quality cards are always prepared using offset printing. You must remember that you should always select offset printing if want yourself an exclusive business card. Offset printing uses spot colors which have a very long life and they infuse very deeply and perfectly in the paper. Offset printing uses rubber which presses against the paper to transfer the print. This pressing infuses the colors very permanently with very high quality just like coloring clothes. You can select as many spot colors as you want but usually two colors spot printing is common to save the cost. Sometimes, UV coating can also be used in this process just like a spot color. UV coating can be used to create different patterns of rough and smooth surface on the card which adds to the visual as well as the touching appeal of your business card. You can also use exclusive building material for your card. Silk is the best choice as an exclusive material. It has a long life and provides beautiful color textures and smooth finishes.
