5 Most Common Water Treatment Chemicals

Business,Environment,Health
Quality water treatment is vital throughout our everyday lives; from ensuring clean drinking water through to preventing against corrosion. It is something that many of us can take for granted, but forgetting about water treatment could land you in all sorts of trouble in no time. The first step, as always, is a bit of education; ensuring that you are clued up on the various types of water treatment chemicals can help you to protect your home and your business from unpleasant or harmful contaminants. Below, we have created a handy guide to some of the most common water treatment chemicals used to help purify water, enhance protection and kill any unwanted bacterial nasties:

1. Chlorine Dioxide Chlorine Dioxide is one of the most commonly used water chemicals, which is primarily intended to control and reduce the risk of Legionnaire’s disease. It comes in different forms, depending on domestic or industrial use. In tablet form, it is most useful in small quantities for odour control and water storage tanks, whilst high purity chlorine dioxide is the best, environmentally friendly product to use in larger doses as a treatment for cooling systems.

2. Phosphate/Silicate Hard water is the unpleasant and potentially dangerous result of a build up of naturally occurring salts of calcium and magnesium which are found in all water sources. This type of water can make everyday jobs like washing with soap and detergent more difficult and costly. Soft water can be even more damaging, leading to discoloured or “red” water that is caused by iron pipe corrosion. Phosphate/Silicate can be used to stabilise both these issues affected by soft and hard water.

3. Oxygen Scavengers A badly treated boiler can lead to harmful and potentially fatal consequences. High concentrations of corrosion in boilers are initially caused by dissolved oxygen, acidity and excessive alkalinity. If left unattended to, the boiler tubes are much more likely to overheat and then, in the worst case scenario, rupture. The steam exhibited from a ruptured boiler can cause severe scalding and burning to the human skin. Oxygen scavengers help to prevent the corrosion of boilers, through steam purity and quality, ensuring the safety of your heating system.

4. Grease Trap Enzymes/Live Cultures Clogged up sinks and drains are never pleasant to deal with. Grease Trap Enzymes are a vital time-saving product often used to tackle troublesome grease and fats. It is particularly useful to use these live cultures within large, commercial sites with big drainage systems such as canteens, hotels and restaurants.

5. Sanosil Sanosil is a super-disinfectant that can be used within virtually any commercial/industrial industry, as it is versatile within a number of environments. It is effective in water temperatures from 0°C - 95°C, odourless and does not affect taste therefore making it a top choice for purifying drinking water.

So there you have it - five of the most popular water treatment products. If you think you need any of them for your business, speaking to a water treatment supplier can usually give you a much better idea - luckily in this day and age, there are plenty of companies that can help online.
