For Jeremy Freer, the choice was either to continue working on the family's dairy farm in Fredericktown, Ohio or take a different career path. At one of life's forks in the road, he chose the latter, and after working as a paramedic, he would revolutionize the air ambulance industry by establishing Angel MedFlight Worldwide Air Ambulance in 2007. Although he left the farmlands of Central Ohio, he has never forgotten home -- the community where his work ethic was forged. Recently, Freer was highlighted in an issue of Ohio Public Schools Magazine as one of the "Proud Products of Ohio Public Schools." The 64-page magazine highlights the accomplishments of not only Freer but Olympic gold medalist, physicist and drug-testing pioneer Dr. Edwin C. Moses; special education supervisor Jeffery A. Berk; Dean of Findlay College of Education, Dr. Julie D. McIntosh; and University of Virginia School of Medicine professor Dr. Michael E. Williams. The article points out Freer's commitment to giving back to the farmland community he worked in not only as a dairy farmer, but as Fredericktown's youngest volunteer firefighter. Never forgetting his Ohio roots and his passion for farming, Freer would go on to found the custom farming business Movers & Shuckers. Freer's motivation was establishing a business that also offers equipment rental, excavation, hauling and maintenance would, as the article states, "bring jobs and resources back to where he grew up." This product of Ohio Schools has never forgotten the educators who influenced him the most. In "Proud Products of Ohio Schools, " Freer remembers two teachers from his younger years who influenced him the most: Betty Weller and Erika Reiss. He says, "Even to this day, Betty continues to believe in me and be an advocate for my goals and myself. " Freer recalls in fourth grade and that Reiss "chose to recognize that as an active kid, I just needed to be cultivated and to have guidance to channel my energy. Her kindness and willingness to see me for who I was has never been forgotten." The guidance provided by those educators undoubtedly led to Freer taking part in many local activities. He joined Future Farmers of America and 4-H and he played both football and basketball. Freer attended Fredericktown High School in Knox County, graduating in 2000. From there it was on to becoming a full-time firefighter/paramedic and then flight paramedic. It was during his time as a flight paramedic he saw the inefficiencies in the air ambulance industry and sought out to change it. Change it he did by founding Angel MedFlight Worldwide Air Ambulance and streamlining the medical transport process while providing the highest standards of patient care. For his vision and innovations in the air ambulance industry, Freer was named a finalist for the 2013 Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Mound Desert Region.
