A look back on acupuncture and how it affects human anatomy

Health
History Acupuncture originated in China thousands of years ago. Acupuncture needles in the early Chinese era were made of stones and bones. Now, they are made of metal or stainless steel wire. Acupuncture was developed when early Chinese doctors noticed unpredicted effects of puncture wounds in Chinese warriors. In the 19th Century, some western doctors who visited China were fascinated by the acupuncture and introduced it to other countries. Acupuncture thoroughly expanded when President Nixon visited China in 1972. Together with him was the New York Times reporter James Reston, who experienced acupuncture after undertaking an emergency appendectomy. The power of needles used in acupuncture

Acupuncture represents the essence of alternative traditional Chinese medicine. It is the art of inserting the acupuncture needles into several parts of the body at specific points for healing purposes or in order to anesthetize a body part during surgery. These tools are used to create health and wellness by balancing the body’s energy movement which is known as ‘qi’into better flow via pathways of the body. Acupuncture needles are normally made of stainless steel wire and they are very flexible and rounded but very sharp at the tip. They are typically disposable and in case of reusable needles it is required to sterilize the needle first before using it again. It is used in many ways. It can be spun, flicked or even moved up and down to the exact points of the body. The person who is knowledgeable and expert about inserting the acupuncture needles into various point of the body is called Acupuncturist. It is recommended that inserting the needle must be quick so that the patient can’t feel the pain that much since most pain is felt in the superficial layers of the skin. Acupuncture is an effective way to treat various medical problems particularly respiratory illnesses, allergies, gastrointestinal disorders, nervous problems and many more. Acupuncture can’t be done without the power of these needles.

Should anyone avoid Acupuncture needles?

Since the early Chinese acupuncturist who used acupuncture needles made of stones and bones and now when it’s made of steel or metal, thousands of people are still practicing this art of alternative medicine. These needles are safe. There’s no serious adverse effects were reported. Just make sure that the acupuncturist uses sterilized needles before using them.Acupuncture needles do not have a cutting edge. It is designed to slide smoothly through tissues. Some health care providers don’t accept acupuncture treatment for those who are pregnant. Others may be very experienced in treating patients who are pregnant because there are certain points that are thought to benefit pregnant patients. Make sure that before receiving the treatment, the Acupuncturist is competent in answering the threats and benefits of acupuncture during the pregnancy. Moreover, according to some studies acupuncture is not recommended during menstruation. Also, be honest when talking to your doctor if you are taking medications and all the medical conditions you have. Talk first to your doctor before going to an acupuncturist.
