be District 12's tribute. And she freaks out about her decisionlater. While she's willing to die 10 times over to save Prim,Katniss still is overtaken with fear. Now that is something I canrelate to. Plus, "Hunger Games" has something for everyone. While I usuallydislike futuristic books, I loved "Hunger Games" because of theromance and action. The world in "Hunger Games" is so familiar toour own world that without even realizing it, a person would beable to relate so much better to Panem than Forks, even thoughForks is an actual town in Washington. The citizens living in the "Hunger Games'" Capitol are obsessedwith altering their appearances by changing their skin tone ordying their hair crazy colors. Hello, that's exactly like the starsin Hollywood with their orange tans and bleached hair. And just asthe citizens are obsessed with watching the games, people lovewatching reality TV. Now, I realize watching young people kill eachother isn't the reality TV we're used to, but if you think aboutit, it's still observing people's lives. It's the heroines in these series that really stand out. Bella isway too dependent on Edward for her happiness. She blows off allher friends to hang out with him and falls into depression when heleaves her in "New Moon" (the second book in the series). And forsome reason, Bella has this twisted idea that if she does daringthings that could possibly kill her, she'll be able to see Edwardagain. Bella needs to get some help if she seriously believes thatshe's seeing Edward. Katniss, on the other hand, doesn't depend on guys to make thingsall better for her. When Prim gets chosen at the reaping, Katnissdoesn't wait for someone to step up and volunteer to take Prim'splace. Instead, she volunteers herself. And when Katniss is thrustinto the arena, she doesn't chase after Peeta so he can protect herand make her happy. She runs off, survives on her own and ends uptaking care of Peeta. If Bella were forced into the games, she would most likely be thefirst person dead. I have this vision of her standing in the middleof the open field, shivering, crying and calling out Edward's name. Which person would you rather be? The dependent, emotional mess orthe independent, strong leader? I think the answer is prettyobvious. So is the answer to the question "Is 'Hunger Games' reallybetter than 'Twilight?' " The Life in Perspective board is made up of teens who write columnsand features for this newspaper.
