Homeopathy is a system of medicine that involves treating the person with highly diluted substances, mainly given in the form of a tablet, with the sole aim of triggering the natural healing system of the body. Based on their particular symptoms, a homeopath will match the most correct medicine to each patient. Homeopathy is simply based on the principle that you can treat 'like with like', i.e. a substance causing symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat the same symptoms. For instance, drinking excess coffee can lead to sleeplessness and agitation, so as per this principle, when transformed into a homeopathic medicine, can be used to treat individuals with these symptoms. At times, this concept is used in conventional medicine, for instance, the stimulant Ritalin is used for treating patients with ADHD or small doses of allergens such as pollen are at times used to de-sensitize the allergic patients. Homeopathy as a Science Homeopathic medicines called as remedies by homeopaths are manufactured by specialist pharmacies using a careful process of dilution and succussion (a particular form of dynamic shaking). Till today, science has not been able to explain the mechanism of action of ultra high dilutions in the body, however laboratory experiments have time and again demonstrated that substances prepared with the help of homeopathy cause biological effects. One theory says that during the manufacturing of homeopathic medicine, the dilution as well as the agitation processes leads to an interaction between the original material and the alcohol and water it's mixed with. Thus, tiny new structures (nanostructures) are created which are the active ingredient and remain present when the sample has been diluted several times. Today, homeopathy has become a popular alternative for allopath. Many are now opting for this medical science as a substitute to allopath. Though, it cannot totally substitute allopath, it has established a niche for itself in the market. Several homeopathic seminars in India are also organized wherein the homeopaths discuss on the various possibilities homeopathy can bring about in the current scenario. In this seminar, an overall discussion takes place as to how this medical science has affected the lives of humans in a positive way. Also, the seminar relates to the future scope of homeopathy as well. There is certain criteria for a candidate to be eligible for the courses, i.e., a candidate must have attained 10+2 in the subjects of chemistry, physics, biology and English with minimum 45% marks to be entitled for the Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course. An All India Entrance Examination is needed for the selection into the BHMS course which is similar to the MBBS course. The duration of homeopathic courses in Maharashtra is five and half years, which also include internship. Further, a 4 years diploma in homeopathy is also available and once the candidate reaches the post graduate level a three year long MD in homeopathy is also available. Homeopathy, today, has created some sort of revolution despite having a severe competition from ayurveda and allopath. Today, many homeopathic seminars in India are held wherein detailed discussion takes place about the progress this medical science has made.
