5 Ways to Prevent Injuries at Your Workplaces

Business
Here's 5 easy, proactive, methods that you can use to help decrease injuries at your facility.

1.) Increase visibility: If you can see it, it is possible to avoid it. Enhance visibility of your staff members by furnishing all of them with appropriate visibility equipment which include safety vests, reflective arm and leg bands, and strobe and various other wearable lights. Also make sure to increase visibility of support beams, racking, shelving, and various other critical sectors of your facility through the use of marking tape, including high visibility tape, reflective tape, and labeling tape. Finally, always insure that your facility has proper lighting. A dark facility is often a dangerous facility. Supplement ordinary lights with work lights in busy areas and make certain your facility is properly equipped with emergency lights and flashlights in case of a power failure.

2.) Use proper storage: Don’t leave flammable or combustible goods scattered around your facility. Be certain that they're properly located in an appropriately sized safety storage cabinet. These types of cabinets help prevent the possibility of fire, can be found in highly visible colors to aid in identify dangerous liquids, offer compliance with fire codes, provide security, and in many cases advance efficiency by keeping your products organized.

3.) Watch your step: Take a smooth concrete floor and add liquid (of which there are numerous present at most companies) and you've got a recipe for slippage. Make sure that you have wet floor caution devices accessible for immediate deployment when a spill takes place. Also, have absorbent products prepared and in clearly identified locations to ensure that spills may be cleaned up promptly. Even more importantly, be proactive by halting spills with spill containment products and solutions and proper preventative procedures for storage of liquids at your building.

4.) Ergonomics can be your friend: Even minor and reoccurring injuries can plague your employees, leaving them aching and unhappy, and you shorthanded and irritated. Ergonomic devices including back supports, wrist and arm supports, along with knee pads, elbow pads, and support gloves can all alleviate problems with nagging injuries such as stress fractures, hernations, bruises, etc. Make a simple investment in these kinds of products and your return might be a more happy and healthier team.

5.) Hydrate: The importance of keeping your facility’s staff members properly hydrated, especially during hotter seasons, should not be understated. Beyond the well-known reasons, dehydration is risky because even during its early stages it can certainly considerably decrease alertness and attentiveness, which could be a recipe for disaster when working with equipment. Regardless of whether indoors or out, make sure your facility is properly stocked with hydrating supplies along the lines of water coolers, and electrolyte replacement refreshments most notably Sqwincher or Gatorade. You could also be proactive in reducing dehydration by offering your staff with more breaks on hot days and offering employees with adequate heat stress protection equipment, which include cooling inserts for vests, cooling bandanas and head wraps, combined with wearable hydration packs.

Always remember to keep the facility thoroughly fitted with the essential safety products and devices stated above. Doing so will not only help keep you in compliance with OSHA and other standards, but will also assist in keeping your facility safe and drastically lessen workplace injuries.
