10 Points of Protocol for a Promotional Video

E-Commerce,Internet Marketing,Sales
Video marketing can boost your sales substantially. But, making an effective video will take time and effort. According to ComScore, 64% of viewers are more likely to buy a product after watching a video. Video was the fastest growing advertising method in 2012. If you do not already, you might want to seriously consider a promotional video for your business.

Below are ten points of protocol for your video:

Grab Your Audience – Making an impact in the first few seconds of your video could mean the difference between success and failure. Getting the audience involved works very well in many situations. This will compel them to hear more. For instance, if you are offering a business opportunity, ask the audience to look in their wallets/purse. Then ask them to count the money (to themselves). Most people will wish they had more to count. You can let them know you have the solution. Have them do something that will make them more aware of the problem and offer the solution.

Use Relevant Keywords – Keywords are always important for search engine ranking and your promo video is no exception. Before writing your script, do some keyword research and work the top keywords into your lines.

Quick and to the Point – Most people will stop watching after 45-60 seconds if you cannot keep their interest. Don’t waste time. Keep your video under three minutes, if possible. You never want to lose their attention.

Call to Action – Be sure to add that all-important call to your video. Let people know what they should do. Call now for a free trial. Send email for a 25% discount. Call this number for your free report. Whatever you want your audience to do, let them know specifically.

Quality Audio – Don’t skimp on the audio. Make sure there are no distracting background noises. Speak slowly and clearly. Be sure to use a quality microphone. Good audio can be more important than the video in your video!

Connect with Your Audience – Don’t try to put on a big flashy phony production. Be real and sincere. Make the video as if you are sharing with a friend. Do not talk down to your audience. Share yourself with your audience and make that connection. People are not mindless robots that will do what you program them to so speak intelligently and respectfully to them.

Visually Appealing – Use different angles and perspectives. Don’t make a “freeze-frame” video so to speak where the camera is held in one spot throughout and nothing changes. Make sure you look professional but not too formal. No need to go for the “stuffed shirt” look. Do not use a cluttered up background as that could be too distracting for your audience. Use tripods to minimize camera shaking. Keep it simple yet appealing. If you want to go for more punch, try using animation or special effects. Use a program such as GoAnimate where you can make a promo video for an affordable price. Who doesn’t like animation?

Take Time Writing a Good Script – This is very important. You want people to know you know what you are talking about so don’t just “wing it”. Put the time and thought into writing a script that will get results. Make it inviting and captivating. Use the story-telling method. Include in your story, the problem and the solution. You don’t want to put your audience to sleep with too many numbers and statistics. Add a little humor but be careful to not make it offensive or inappropriate. Engage your audience. Don’t just be a talking billboard.

Test Your Video – Have family and friends view your video and get honest feedback to how it could be improved. Ask them if the video would convince them to act and follow through with the call to action.

Don’t Forget to Edit – Even if you have to edit your video a dozen times, it is worth it for a successful promotion. Research editing programs and choose one that will do the job effectively. Watch the video and add in any finishing touches or details that can elevate your video.

There are many different types of videos you can produce to promote your business but no matter your choice, the above points of protocol could make or break your video!
